How do you feel about cosplay?

Is there some Survivorship bias going on here?
My modelling career was brief, but respectably paid. Can't say the same about a cosplay career...

I see you've kept away from onlyfans :cry::cry:
Webcamming and the like doesn't really count, as it's not at a public event, it's not primarily about the costume itself, and they usually just buy in some cheap pre-made costume that vaguely approximates the character, rather than making their own highly detailed and accurate one. At best, it's just general fantasy/themed fetish camming, in the wider scheme of things... even for the few such models who genuinely do put all the effort into costume.

It's fans having harmless fun and enjoying themselves. I'm more concerned with people who don't like seeing people enjoying themselves so much that it irritates them enough to make them angry/annoyed by it all.

There's some very judgmental people in this thread. I'm quite surprised actually considering this is forum for people who enjoy the geekier side of life.

Cosplay isn't my jam but if that's what people enjoy, why not?

Quick google found this.

Of course, it still attracts lots of people who dress up as a skimpy, minimal clothing character from many shows that they can choose from. Similar to Halloween, instead of dressing scary, they dress as a naughty nurse with not much clothing.

some serious effort has gone into them
i think i'd have to quit my job to have enough time to build some of those :p
its quite creative and can help you learn a lot of skills that can be applied elsewhere perhaps

It depends on the cosplay, really...
If you enjoy making costumes and props and stuff, showing them off at geek conventions and generally socialising around such interest (particularly if you're really good at making stuff), then there will be the greatest of respect for you.
If you're just a mid-late teens little girl (or a grown-ass male pervert) who wants to dress with minimal effort like a generic anime character, swan around purely for attention and social media likes and will present as a coquettish *****-tease, while getting upset at the very pervs you're enabling, then yes you can rightly expect judgement.

Think of the first one as being the general and specialised forums about overclocking, system building and the like... and the second one as the absolute worst bun-fight alcohol-drenched bitch threads of GD, I guess.

And if people dont like it, why not? They're free to have opinions and feelings.

Not liking it is an opinion and no one is saying there is a anything wrong with that. The issue is judging people as "losers" or "pathetic" because they like something you don't.

The judgement of the person who is doing no harm to anyone that's the issue.

Yeah actual Cosplay isn't my thing, it's a pretty nerdy hobby but so is PC gaming so who am I to judge?

The other side of Cosplay is just girls dressing up to look a bit slutty, I'm more of a fan of that.

Brits doing cosplay , i think this is what Lysander is referring too. :D

Yes. This is awful. Exactly the kind of thing I was talking about.

Most people, as in 99.9%, are not like the Blizzard guy, whatever it was. Most look like total **** and it's absolutely embarrassing.

A microminority do not represent the whole bunch. It's so cringe I can't even.
