There's only one real generation difference.I want pick something in the 11gen dew having that a few generations then my current CPU i7 6700k.
Intel rebranded same old 2015's Skylake four times!
"7th gen" should have been nothing more than 6750K etc, because it was only minor clock speed tweak.
"8th gen" at least finally added more cores after Intel stagnating 10 years in four cores:
"Four cores is high end Intel" was the biggest obstacle for advance of game development in last decade.
But needing new boards was completely artificial limitation for grabbing more money by force selling also new motherboards.
By hacking BIOS "6/7 gen" boards accept succeeding rebrandings fine:

Also except for the top models Intel disabled HyperThreading.
And 10th gen Comet aka Comedy Lake was another emergency edition with more cores crammed in and HyperThreading restored for even higher max power draw to try to keep up with AMD.
Rocket Lake (11th gen) was Intel's first actual architectural change in five years.
But because of failed manufacturing node development it being backport for same old 14nm++++++ it is hardly better than Skylake rebrandings.
And core count had to be cut back to 8, which is half of AMDs core count available for desktop platform socket.
Meaning no upgradability without changing board, while AMD likely brings 3D stacked L3 cache upgraded Zen3s for current AM4.
