I wont do a per mile calc, but I did work out once that as a household we were spending £1.2k per month on motoring (across 4 cars). Now that I'm not commuting and that one of our cars is EV it's come right down from that figure.

There's an app for that!
When apps and smart phones first appeared I couldn't help but say "there's a t*at for that" because someone would whip out an app for every situation :D.

Gone are the days of a good debate over something over a pint using your own experience and knowledge hey ;)

So many variables but I'll have a go. 2012 Mercedes C63 6.2. Just under 3 year ownership.

Depreciation - £0 (thanks to current market)
Services - 1145 (3 main dealer)
MOT - 90
Fuel - 7500 (approx)
Tyres - 770 (only needed one corner each so far)
Tax - 1700
Bodywork repairs/alignment/other - 435
Insurance - £1570
Total £13,211
18000 miles

73p a mile

Excluded ceramic coating and general detailing/wash products.

~34p per mile, that is amortised leasing costs, electricity to charge, servicing and insurance for a Hyundai Ioniq 38kWh, based on an average 8k miles per year. Not bad considering fuel at 40mpg is ~15p per mile on its own, leaving ~£1,520 for all of the other costs for the same 8kpa if I looked at other options.

Including the full cost of the car that is ~40ppm for the full 44k.

This is actually quite a difficult measure to be comparative on. On some cars, people covering a very high mileage will have a disproportionately low cost per mile - even if the car is unreliable the sheer quantity of miles will result in a low cost per mile figure. Other people may opt to buy a brand new but ordinary care to drive very infrequently, this will give them a very high cost per mile. However if they did the same mileage as the unreliable car owner, or the unreliable car owner did the same mileage as them, the pictures would look quite different.

But anyway, I'll have a go.

Including Depreciation, Fuel, Warranty, Servicing and Tyres my 2015 530d, which I've owned for 5 years from 12 months old, works out at pretty much 50p a mile.

Which is actually quite weird, as both my previous 530d and my E39 530i both ended up averaging out at the same - 48p for the 2010 530d, 52p for the E39 530i.

For the Mini, which we bought new... 35p a mile.

Exactly this....

I just worked through my BMW 123d and it comes to 35p a mile roughly.

But that's because all the diesel, insurance, maintenance, repairs, tyres etc and the fact it cost me £16k and I now value it at £0 is swamped with the 160k miles I've done in it.

As I am sad an log every penny spent this stuff quite easy to generate data,

Numbers are all car associated costs including fuel, I have done over 10k on track and competition in the Punto prior to getting the 5, so there's some high fuel and quite accelerated brake and tyre wear in there, in reality the car is super cheap and reliable.

Daily driver Abarth Punto Evo SS over 10yrs/92k, 35p a mile, assuming it would sell at current values, 44p a mile assuming 0 value, with mods 54p a mile.

track/sprint car MX5, £76 a mile this year and it's only done 200 miles :D but overall 56p a mile, throw away too much dough on go faster bits.

Barely anything really.
Bought a brand new Astra GTC in 2016. As it was the outgoing model it was £13500.
We Buy Any Car values it at nearly £5000 at the moment. Can't argue with ~£100 per month depreciation on a new vehicle.

I love cars, but they are a catastrophic waste of money*.

*I put a turbo on my MX5 this year :D.

73p a mile without any depreciation for a C63

I suppose it's mostly fuel for that engine :D

I think I've probably over estimated fuel there but its not going to be too far away. I didn't think everything else was too bad to be fair. 3 main dealer services (2 minor, 1 major). Tyres have been amazing. The rears could easily be done every 5000 miles. No brake pads/discs and no major issues. Running without warranty too and insurance is very good given that I'm in Stoke!

10p is road tax. I feel that pain

This is the one bit that really ****** me off!

Yeah main dealer servicing ain’t cheap but I like it. It has to be done every year regardless of miles driven.

That petrol spend is so low you can't be doing more than about 1000 miles a year surely? There must surely be a more cost effective solution for you?
