We’re in a climate crisis apparently but big, heavy, gas guzzling SUV’s are somehow necessary. They are absolutely pointless and irresponsible given the issues that we are facing.

Nothing personal against the op by the way.

Hmm what about the hundreds of Classic car events held around the country weekly, I bet the monster 6L you so despise has better emissions than many of these especially the American Classic events and they pay no VED.

What's your stance on this? May as well throw motor sports of all kinds into the mix.

A large amount of big cc cars do piston on demand or what ever its called making then even more fuel efficient :)

hahaha, wow, wasn't excpecting this, but feel free to carry on. The question is, do I need this bag of crisps infront of me... the answer is no... am I going to eat these bag of crisps... DAMN RIGHT as I love crisps :)

Ok, so, before Thursday big day of changing the Transmission fluids... I thought I'd get some baselines now... so I know we've got the right amount in now and also, to check the colour and smell, see how good or bad the current fluid is at 46k miles... So, by using the following graph, running the engine and allowing tranny to warm up... I used the ODB2 connecting for live data and trans temps in both D and R... and then measured... with the new dipstick I've just purchased (Jeep don't supply and lock off the tranny fluid intake)...

So, my figures were:

100F = 40mm
108F = 45mm
115F = 50mm

All these figures seem right now on that graph.Didn't bother going higher as I knew looks like it's fine.

As for the condition of the fluid... smells kinda weirdly sweet (not burnt) and the colour looks really solid.. almost like it's been done in the past but hard to say, certainly not burnt though.

However, that's not going to stop me from dropping the fluid twice (once then a 15 minute drive then drop and refill) to get as much out as I can. Also, as Jeep don't have a pan with a drain plug, when we change first drop, I'm changing to the Mercedes Pan for the 722.6 NAG1 which comes with a drain hole! Jeep need shooting for things like this!

I don't know if it's a help at all but just by you is Chester Automatic Transmission Centre who are ZF gearbox specialists and have a machine which gets 99% of the GB oil out, inc all the additional oil stuck in the TQ, preventing the need for a second flush/refill. I've used them twice for my previous RS6's ZF Gearbox drain/refill/service and they were quite cheap.

yeah cheers was contemplating getting them to do it... and was determined to do it myself, learn to do things and all that. So, today we did it and it was easier than I thought. Dropped the pan and changed filter then basically Used the ODB2 and Transmission temp in D or R, measured whats' on the stick and job done. Dropped it twice... could've and would've done 3 but hey...

LOL just saw the environment discussion - at least in this country people tend to own these kind of vehicles either for a bit of fun and don't do many miles or because they actually need such a vehicle and there are limited if any actually environmentally friendly options.

No one needs a heavy gas guzzler for fun or any reason in this country. Full stop.

We can justify almost anything if we want to but it doesn’t change the fact that it is more environmentally damaging to drive such a vehicle. There is a reason the U.S has largely moved away from heavy gas guzzling v8’s to more efficient smaller engines cars. Even if you only do 100 miles a year, it’s a fact you can do it more efficiently in a smaller lighter car. Fact.

As I said it’s nothing personal I don’t know the guy and it’s his money but it still don’t change the fact it’s a silly car. Sorry.

It is a silly car, I agree. I don't particularly like it either but the only rational response to that is not to buy one yourself. It's not fair to criticise him for even owning it in the first place - it's his choice and he hardly uses it anyway. The environmental impact of him having a fun toy he barely uses is very small - I'd imagine you'd have no issue with somebody driving to work and back in a Fiesta for 10k a year even though the environmental impact of that will be higher than this guy with his Jeep?

What do you drive - if its anything more inefficient that a Prius or a Fiesta diesel then you're probably being hypocritical.

This. the biggest environmental damage was probably from making this car in the first place rather than driving it for the few miles each year it gets driven.

The World is moving closer to renewable energy sources rather than coal power plants. The World is also moving to electric vehicles at an increasing rate. Before you know it no ice vehicles will be produced.

There is a reason for this people we are all in agreement about this indisputable fact, surely.

So why we can all have our little pleasures in life there is a bigger, more important picture. That’s what I’m saying.

Guys it’s nothing personal I’m just expressing my opinion but it is a fact that running a car of that nature is completely opposed to the way society is being pushed. In the era of a Prius and a Tesla a V8 jeep is irrelevant. It makes a nice sound but other than that it’s as pointless as the masses of Range Rovers in Chelsea.

Actually I think what pug is doing is exactly how "the way society is being pushed" (and what the market is saying is happening).

People are replacing their everyday cars with efficient/'boring'/electric vehicles and getting their ICE-pill from second, third or even fourth cars that they use infrequently. They use them few and far between, impeccably maintained.

I'd rather pug own it and use it infrequently than someone buy it to drive into the ground.
