With everyone giddy over the Lotus Emira (with good reason!) I'm sticking with my Esprit, for now,... maybe? :D

Loved my S4S as a daily driver until the engine blew up at high speed destroying the bottom end camshaft :( Fragile cars even if serviced regular (every 6K miles without fail or watch things that cost £££ break rapidly! This is why they are a fraction of the cost of a Ferrari. In my ownership time I had the following fail:

1:Clutch caught fire burnt the flywheel so had to get it reskimmed & new clutch assembly.
2:2nd gear broke (its the most fragile part and prone to failures especially if you do not replace the red clutch hose).
3:Front wheel bearing failed.
4:Bottom end got destroyed after the last service (the garage did not properly check the valve clearances as its so time consuming some skip that unless decent trustworthy mechanics  so the engine went out of balance causing the big end bearing to explode at high speed which had the knock on effect of reshaping the camshaft ).

After spending the best part of £35K on repairs & running costs BEFORE the camshaft got destroyed I decided enough was enough & sold her to someone who wanted to take on the engine rebuild project but do not think she ever got back on the road as the number plate & car VIN disappeared forever which is a good sign she is either in a garage somewhere or never made it back on the road.

When she ran properly though the road handling & acceleration were pretty spectacular !!

Even made it to Pistonheads once!

What did if cost all in out of interest? My mate recently got a crown 186 imported and it took him 5 complaints to DVLA to get it registered.. hopefully you don't get the same treatment.

No hassles, all in around £5.5k

To be fair to the DVLA its never been an issue for me, sometimes quicker than others but typically about 4 weeks. I usually do 1 or 2 a year but never had to complain.

Lenso RS5 wheels by any chance ?

Yeah, theyre no longer on the car though. They went awful and were leaking air no matter what tyres or valves I had on. No idea what happened.

The car is currently off the road as im working on cutting out all the rust and getting it fixed up. Sad to see it how it is but I should have it on the road next year all being well.

JayEmm just did a review of an S1 Esprit - must be something in the water. They sound like a nightmare to work on.
They are real specialist cars...you have not lived though until you do the cam belt change on one ;) ...drop the engine bolts...block of wood under the sump jack that up gives you access to then do the cam belt change & get the timing correct. You do it wrong new engine time you do it right saves you £2-3K on what a proper specialist charges!

6K miles constant services is why you do not see many on the roads anymore & parts are harder to come by most are garage queens nowadays they are just not built to last S1 is also the worse for reliability. S4 is best followed by V8 but 50 or so V8 got the wrong cylinder liner sealant which means they needed a new engine due to oval pistons!!!

Fantastic cars when running properly but you need deep pockets to run in 2021 & expect to set aside £2-3K a year just in basic maintenance items alone plus 10-15MPG = bit expensive for most drivers :p its why they are so cheap compared to the Ferraris of the same era when new. Now the costs are about the same but the Lotus will be real hard to find certain parts for gearbox especially (which is a known weakness as its a Renault UN1 - which they stopped making so the Esprit got cancelled as Renault closed the production line back in 2003). Same Gearbox as Renault 21 I believe!!

Going to see James Bond tomorrow so thought I’d give the Aston some pampering and well I could not leave the Vette out.

That is such an epic shot, amazing, like driving on another planet.

@Gibbo , I've always wanted a Vantage and almost nearly got one but needed a car that would handle the miles. The amount of miles I did at the time would have seriously devalued the car and cost a fortune in fuel. Then we had a kid . Still want one though!

@AWPC , nice S4S and in my 2nd favourite colour too :). I think you've been really unlucky, I've driven over 40k miles in mine and except for a clutch going it's never let me down. Going on for 104k miles now, use it or lose it!

4k geez what a bargain, even if it throws up a big bill its throw away money.
So I'm blaming you now :(
Only joking but seriously its all your fault just kidding

So the car dropped its coolant and upon inspection turned out a pipe had burst at the back of the engine feeding the cooling system. Long story short the head gasket needed replacing so engine has been out of the car getting the head skimmed etc.

While its there the plugs are being replaced and all fluids are being replaced along with all filters, new pads and bushes etc. Also the non working bonnet struts are being replaced.

I am hoping to get it back tomorrow and equally hoping that this countries cheap labour will be easy on the wallet...

Picked this up last week as a cheap little weekend fun car which will get used for the odd commute now and again.

2006 facelift E85 2.5i Sport. It's 15 years old but its been looked after very well, last owner was an enthusiast and has been a mine of information for me. It's my first Z4 and I love it to bits. Not the fastest thing in the world but very nice to drive. Had been looking for a Montego Blue one for a while and uncannily enough this popped up locally last week so I went to see it and loved it :) Took my little lad out today in it for a drive, lots of smiles all round with the top down!
