Fine, no major international football events, such as the World Cup or Euros finals (except the last one, and indeed in ‘96)

Even the US gets to host it twice (joint in 2026) in the time we last hosted the World Cup

Yeah, it was atrocious behaviour but it was a tiny set of fans at the end of the day.

I guess we should be held to higher standards than other countries but to say "This is why we don’t host anything" is a major over-exaggeration. How come, Brazil, Russia and Qatar have had or are hosting world cups then? What about Italy where stabbings are a fairly frequent occurrence at/around football games?

2009-2020 ATP Finals, 2012 Olympics, 2013 Rugby League World Cup, 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2015 Rugby World Cup, 2017 Athletics World Championships, 2019 Cricket World Cup, 2021 Euros and three Champions League Finals.

The only major sporting events we haven't hosted in the last 10 years have been the World Cup, which Fifa just give to the highest bidder, and the Winter Olympics which we'll never host.

You could probably add this years CL final to the list since they wanted to host it at Wembley before moving to Lisbon because we wouldn't bend to Uefa around covid restrictions.

So when was the last time you saw thousands of England fans in one stadium being racist?

A few yobs trying to break into a stadium and fighting is a bit different than many yobs who also fight and regularly display widespread racism.

We have our own issues to address but I'm pretty certain we can still be critical of the behaviour of other fans. The Hungarian's are pretty much in the phase we were 30-40 years ago.

UEFA are an absolute joke when it comes to the punishments they hand out. It's very much one rule for them and another for us approach.

The self loathing in this country really is something to behold at times.

As others have pointed out, we hold a lot of large events and the reason we haven't hosted a football tournament in years is nothing to do with our fans and everything to do with money and corruption in football.

Brazil - Run by a madman who is happily selling the amazon, didn't give a single **** about COVID and is corrupt and bent as you like. Massive crime issues and huge poverty issues.

Russia - I don't even know where to start with Russia but lets start with the fact they were essentially banned from the recent Olympics due to running a state sponsored doping program.

Qatar - Lovely bunch, nothing bad to say about them. No wait, borderline using slave labour to build their stadiums, multiple human rights violations, being gay is still illegal.

But no, a few yobs in this country have put FIFA off hosting it here in favour of these more respectable regimes.

It is a bit more than a few, mind, and corrupt stewards also doesn’t help.

They really don't. If that was the case then no country would ever host it.

Its due to a number of factors. The big one is that we won't bribe FIFA and the second one is probably that there are a lot of countries in the world that haven't hosted it so we don't really have any better claim than 20 others to host these things. When was the last one in Germany, Italy etc

I don't envisage us hosting the world cup anytime soon. There are lots of other countries who have yet to host it, including China, Australia and talks of Israel as well
