Just look at it
Very true, I’ll never forget scaring myself silly back in the early 90’s test driving a Sierra RS Cosworth, it only had 204bhp but by god those horses seemed much wilder than a car of today with 200 ish bhp. When announced and tested they were incredible. In that era a Porsche Turbo was circa 315bhp, a Ferrari 348 around 300bhp and the F40 and 959 (the first of the hypercars it could be argued) were 400bhp and here was a Vauxhall with 377bhp.
It shows how crazy the world is today with 400bhp hot hatch backs! It also shows why spreadsheets should never be used to determine best!
AMG 45 or F40….both have 400bhp and the Merc has 4WD so it’s better in the corners init
Why do 300C owners do this? - In fairness, It was very well polished, got a great reflection of my truck in its paintwork….
Zero traction control, soft suspension, lightness, narrow tyres, no clever diff, brakes from, well the 80's.Very true, I’ll never forget scaring myself silly back in the early 90’s test driving a Sierra RS Cosworth, it only had 204bhp but by god those horses seemed much wilder than a car of today with 200 ish bhp.
Ha! yes absolutely, I had the pleasure to work opposite Turbo Systems back in the late 90’s and got to try a few modified ones that had proper brakes, tyres, suspension but still no T/C , all equally terrifying I can assure you.Zero traction control, soft suspension, lightness, narrow tyres, no clever diff, brakes from, well the 80's.
Bloody kids think 200bhp is not enough these days.
Tbf that first pic is making me hungry. I had the please of going to a porsche meet at specialist cars of Malton (very expensive imo) and they started a carrera gt indoors. It sounded awesome, of I didn't have kids I'd totally be passing off the neighbours with one (I'd also need a second mortgage though).Popped into Caffeine and Machine today for the first time for a car get together. A few friends had organised a meet with Porsche CGT's, there were around 27 lined up at one point but I counted 15 turned up before I left.
But before I get to the cars, the star of the day without question was this:
The place itself for those who haven't been:
And some Boxsters:
George Williams the automotive photographer was standing with me and a few others when I took these so I think he will be massively envious of my skills.
CGT's are not a car that really captured me, but god they sound incredible.

Being light is more than just the hp/ton. It makes everything feel more responsive.
There were no nannies and emissions stuff holding them back either. They can interfere a lot with the throttle response on modern cars.
Cars were so unsafe in the 80's and I recall so many near misses back then. I had a couple of mates who were killed in car crashes or involved in crashes where others were killed. We all drove like nutters but the cars were not fast and the roads were far less busy than they are today. Cars were smaller too so you had more room to play with when you went 'rallying' around the local lanes. No bikes to worry about in large groups like today, no cameras or mobile phones to make you infamous on the uninvented internet and no one really that bothered about kids in their cars as long as they were out of site.
How I didn't write off my mini I have no idea. The two lads I raced around with back then wrote their cars off in front of me (mini and Opel Kadet) as the ABS on my mini saved me. Well I say ABS, the brakes were so bad I could have stomped on them with the force of Thor and the wheels would not have locked (drum brakes) and I managed to drive around my mate who had just parked his mini into the back of my mates Kadet....
The Kadet was rebuilt and 3 days afterwards a woman in Birmingham drove into the back of it again and wrote that off too. I still remember my mate knocking on the door "you are not going to ****ing believe this" to then stand back and point to a wrecked Kadet....AGAIN
I got band for reckless driving a few days later.
