I am technically a 12700KF owner. It just happens that 12700KF is sat in a warehouse somewhere. Probably a different warehouse than the motherboard. Oh and my DDR5 is in Prague somewhere on a truck.

That reminds me actually, the Arctic mounting kit for 1700 has not arrived yet, shipping form Germany so may actually arrive at the weekend. I guess it's a good thing the mobo stock is MIA then.

What's the best way to apply thermal paste on Alder Lake?

No different to applying thermal paste to any other CPU, you can do the blob in the middle or spread it out. Thermal Grizzly say spread it out and give you a little spreader in the pack for example.

My mobo order with ocuk cancelled as still no stock ETA, could be weeks, could be days was told today but I found 2 in stock elsewhere and it's arriving tomorrow, same price. Kinda weird how these are distributed around the country as yesterday afternoon there were no stock anywhere lol.

Only thing left is Arctic's 1700 mounting kit and I can get ahead and start building.

All but the mobo is here now. Surprisingly the LGA1700 mounting kit arrived even though Arctic's account area has no tracking or shipping detail lol.

Well pleased I went 12700KF

12700KF and K are this years best CPU from Intel full stop, power use is sensible and matches a 12900k in real world without the silly heat and power issues.


I warned people when they were not part of the review kits that Intel was hiding it for a reason, now we know why.. it's their best value and best chip this 12th gen.

All that got a 12700K or KF, nice job ..

Current upgrade pyramid. Waiting for the 12700KF, board and DDR5 4800. PSU was a little needless but the current 750w EVGA gold is a bit noisier than I'd like and well, I just wanted the 2021 RMx. Noctuas are upgrading the ones on my AIO (to match the other case Noctuas).

Nice! The one thig I am realy looking forward to is on this GB board the fans can be "off" when below a certain temp threshold so just like the GFX card that does this anyway, my case fans will be doing this too. Less dust in the case, near total silence apart from AIO pump almost at all times until I game or export a batch of images in Lightroom. Never thought this sort of feature would be possible especially on such a modern CPU/platform.

I've decided I'm definitely going to buy the 12700K/KF.

I'll need an entire new system as I'm upgrading from an i7 930 CPU rig.

What would be a good Motherboard and RAM to go for?
