Hi, I know nothing about VR and am looking for two bits of advice - Is my spec below OK and what VR device should I be going for?

1 x 24GB ASUS NVIDIA GeForce Ampere RTX 3090 (1 x HDMI | 3 x DP) - RTX Enabled!
1 x ASUS ROG STRIX B550-E GAMING DDR4 ATX MOTHERBOARD - AURA SYNC RGB READY! [WiFi Included]
1 x 1000W - ASUS ROG Strix Fully Modular 80+ Gold PSU
1 x AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12 Core CPU with Wraith Prism RGB Cooler [GPU Required]
1 x GameMax Iceberg RGB Watercooler - 240mm
1 x Corsair Black iCue 4000X RGB Mid Tower Windowed PC Case
1 x 32GB (2x16GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz - Black
1 x RGB Kit (3x12cm Fans + LED Strip)
1 x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
1 x 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA III 3.5" Hard Drive 6GB/s
1 x 512GB M.2 PCI-E NVMe Solid State Drive [Up to 3500MB/s Read | Up to 2300MB/s Write]
1 x Windows 10 Home 64 bit Operating System
1 x ASUS PCE-AC88 AC3100 2167Mbps 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac

Thanks in advance

You have obviously a pretty good budget, drop the 3900x and get the 5900x instead.

Get 3600Mhz memory.

I would also consider getting rid of the 2TB 3.5 inch drive and get a 2TB NVMe instead.

But, if you are on a budget, let us know and I can suggest some better changes.

AS for VR device. Depends really on your use case. What sort of games do you think you will play the most? Sim type games(Car, flight, Space) which are mainly sit down game OR games where you will be required to stand up and move around like Half Life Alyx, Boneworks, Asgard's wrath, Beat Saber etc.

Hard to recommend anything without knowing what software you intend to use it with. For seated simulation games (driving/flying) then Reverb G2 is the current go to. For general VR gaming then consider a Quest 2 or Valve Index. Either way I'd be opting for a Ryzen 5xxx or Alderlake CPU and faster memory. And if building new you might as well go Windows 11 unless you have software that isn't compatible. Can't comment on professional VR use cases as I've no experience in that area.

Now the happy owner of an i12700k based system. I'd like to try Halflife:Alyx on my Quest 2, what are the graphics card options that would leave me with both kidneys ???
What do you have? I’d be looking to sign up to the FE drop alert list on Telegram and Discord and aiming for a 3070 or 3080 FE. However a 3060ti or higher end 20x0 or Super variants will also be suitable.

Currently an old AMD R9 200 series :D

The main use for the PC these days is Photoshop so not looking for an uber gaming rig ( it's been a few years since I spent the night playing CS:Source ;) )

unfortunately PCVR requires a higher end gaming pc than a flat screen game so if you have a pcvr capable device you will by proxy end up with a fairly capable general gaming pc rig. I agree with what mischief said btw 3060ti or above or last gen equivalent. a 1080ti would also do a job
