Hi,

I was wondering which graphics card to buy for 3440x1440 at up to 144hz. I know prices are beyond insanity but I've sold two gpus to fund a new purchase. I'm currently seeing the 6900xt in stock but very few 3080s. The 3080tis seem to be at least 500 more than the 6900xt.

I could wait and just play the ps5 until things improve.

Any help would be appreciated.

3080ti. Funnily enough I was looking into this tonight too and came to the conclusion the conclusion that for future proofing a 3080ti should last you 4 years or so.

Either tbh, both are good cards. Look at teh games you play and the frame rates you want. Even in BF2042 theres not a lot between the top 5 cards at 1440p. A little more with RT enabled (Nv are better) , but its below 100fps with RT (and an RTX 3090)

I'd imagine at this res and framerate the best you can get for your budget. Have a 2080Ti and have a 3440x1440p 120hz monitor and get some games at 120 just fine and some need to be lowered to medium/high which is really not the worst thing haha

Upon reflection, I can barely tell the difference between 100 and 144hz, so anything which averages 80-100 and doesn't drop under 60 would be ideal!

I can only tell the difference in competitive games, so that’s where I let the card run at full tilt. I usually frame limit normal games to max 120 as I see no difference beyond that - the main thing is stable high fps.

The 3080Ti would cost me £289 more than the 6900XT. Seems a hefty premium for Nvidia features.

If you’re fine without DLSS and RT then go for the 6900XT. Your RT will always be on the weaker side, but I can’t imagine that AMD don’t have a DLSS competitor in the works.

I mean I would say the 2080ti fits your needs pretty well, so anything 3070 and above should be good for you if you're looking to not spend top dollar (assuming you can get one for not top dollar ;) )

Just stick with the ps5 for now and try and pick up a 3070/3080FE in the mean time. With less than a year now till next gen cards arrive I certainly wouldn't be paying more than £1000 for a card that will have £500 performance in 9 months time.

I couldn't decide between 3080Ti and 6900XT I wanted Nvidia due to the RT, now that I own one and used it, that feature is pretty underwhelming and well there is no reason for DLSS, I would just buy a better card if my card couldn't handle a res well enough, I did test it due to reviews talking about how good it was but again very underwhelmed by that too. 6900xt might be the better purchase as it is faster.

Hmm which games did you test with DLSS and RTX? I would say it depends on game with how good they are, can be meh and can be very impressive performance gains for pretty much no visual loss (Death Stranding). But yeah buying a card just for those features isn't necessarily the best idea as there are still quite limited games using either
