Don’t confuse moving a lot of air with being cheap and low quality. So long as you replace the stock fans with something that has the same specs as the original fans (92 x 92 x 25mm, 3-pin) it will be fine. But you won’t get decent airflow fans much quieter than the ones in the unit. The Noctua NF-A9 5V moves about half as much air as the stock fan, but it will be quieter. The question is - are you prepared to run the DS418 hotter for a bit more quiet?

Yep.

I swapped out the 120mm fans in my DS1815+ with 2 x Arctic F12's because the bearings in one of the stock fans were getting very loud. The new fans are definitely quieter and temperatures weren't affected as far as I remember.
