Whiskey and coke. It's a shame to blow a single malt on such a tripe drink but something like what you've posted I wouldn't second guess. You can get fancy cokes for fairly cheap, and have it as a treat drink very infrequently.

That's what I use it for. I like whiskey but as only the missus buys me nice stuff, I usually end up with several cheap bottles at Christmas from other people. I save them for when people are over and want whiskey and coke as to use a single malt for that would be sacrilege!

Give it as a present to one of your relatives you don't like very much or see very often. Theres a joke about re-gifting somewhere or other I'm sure there are plenty of things that have done the rounds multiple times.

I am not a whisky drinker but that sounds potentially appealing, I'll give it a go!

I don't have a specific recipe but;

crush some mixed peppercorns roughly in pestle & mortar
add to steak towards end of cooking
flambe the whisky with the steak
remove steak to rest
deglaze the pan
add maybe a teaspoon of corn flour when the pan has cooled off a little and cook out the flour for a minute
tip in a carton of decent cream when pan has cooled off a bit
pour back juices from rested steak
add some more ground pepper & salt to taste
warm gently to thicken
