6600 XT doesn't work on my (very) old rig, what should I buy now?

Greetings community.

I bought an ASUS ROG 6600 XT card from Overlockers UK to put in my very old rig (from 2011), but it won't start up. After some googling I realise I need new hardware.

So I'm looking at replacing the motherboard, CPU and memory. In the past I've always used Intel, but if there's an advantage with going with Ryzen CPUs for the GPU I just got, so be it. I'm planning to purchase M.2 storage lateron.

So I'm kindly asking if you could point me in the right direction. AMD Ryzen or Intel?

If Ryzen, I was thinking this combo:

MB: TUF Gaming X570-PLUS
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X

Budget: lets say £750.

Budget: I'd say around 750 for now, but can stretch. I just want something that makes sense for the GPU I just bought.

Interesting, because of connectors? It's a 900W Antec one, and indeed from 2011.

A tad over budget but added psu and nvme , but z690 board has gen5 gpu slot so if you upgrade gpu in a few years you know you wont loose any fps there, also 12600k more comparable to the 5800X than the 5600X...you can get the rm750X psu on offer away for £85 but they have the same nvme for £77 so roughly the same if you don't mind shopping around...

the 12400 is £199 and isn't that far behind the 5600X, so saving can be had there, and you can also get a b660 board, some coming out £120 to £150, saving there too....

The new 12400F or even the 12100F if you on a tight budget would be a good match for the GPU.

It says "Antec PowerSupply (PSU) High Current Gamer 900W - [HV]" so it looks like it, yes. I'll refrain from ordering a new one for now and try what I have first.

You can enable SAM and with a Ryzen CPU and RDNA2 card. I haven’t looked the difference in performance that much, but enabling allows for really decent performance boost in what I have seen. I really like the infinity cache system on AMD.

So 800, which was 50 quid over the budget but then with a pretty fast gen4 SSD and a bit more bling motherboard, did some comparisons on asus.com and landed on the TUF Gaming one.

Ah yes, read about that here, we'll see, will definately try it out.

you don't need x570 and the b550 board i specced would've saved £125
4000mhz memory for ryzen is unnecessary - that's another £40 saved
the ryzen 5600x could've been bought for a lot cheaper if you'd shopped around

I'd agree, you could have got a Z690 and 12700k for a similar spend and the 12700k is almost twice as fast.

Not sure why I went for that memory kit.

However I chose the X570 board because when comparing at Asus website, I realised B550 had 6 SATA connections while X570 had 8. Over the years I've kept on adding storage to my 2011 machine, storing a lot of photos I take, so I'll max those 8 out and still have disconnected disks. I should really start to tidy that up and move it over to fewer and larger drives though.

They are not cheap, but the X570 TUF boards are very good. Easily handle an overclocked 5950X and 4 sticks of overclocked RAM.

depending on how much storage you need...with that extra £200, could've got 2x 4TB CMR drives instead and still have some spare change lol
but to be honest, it sounds like what you need is a NAS, rather than more onboard sata connections

OP paid £320 for a Ryzen 5 5600X? They literally paid £50 more than the average UK price and I would not buy an X570 motherboard for £225 too,especially as capable B550 motherboards can be had for around £100. You could have got a Ryzen 5 5800X for under £350.In fact for for around £50 more than the setup they got, they could have gotten a Ryzen 9 5900X and a £100ish B550.Also in pure gaming a Core i5 12600KF/Core i5 12400F are as faster/faster than a Ryzen 5 5600X and cheaper(even though the motherboards are more expensive).
