7800 GT Extreme V 7900GT

Hi all,

just a quicky, as all the new 7800GT Extremes have been sold what is the difference between the clock & memory speed of above card and a normal 7900GT?

My understanding is that the 7900GT is on a par with the 7800GTX....and is also an eminently clockable card .....methinks that makes the difference likely to be good.....

according to "The Orb" a high end 7800GTX is faster than a 7900GT in 3DMark05 anyway.Obviously there are other factors CPU speed,memory timings etc.

That'll be the 512mb GTX if you're looking at scores where the cards have been overclocked

People dont buy 7900gt's to run at stock however, its like the ati gto2 things, built for overclocking, a 7900gt once had some work on should perform on par/near 7900gtx speeds? 7900gtx would beat a 7800gt hands down or any other gpu bar the x1900xt's

Im just going by what is listed in The Orb.Obviously im searching using matched cpu speed and assuming the top score at that speed would be for both a clocked 7800GTX and a clocked 7900GT

Yeah the 512mb 7800gtx is probably better than a 7900gt, but one has 256 ram and the other has 512, 7800gtx256 vs 7900gt 256, 7800gtx 512 v 7900gtx 512 would be a fair comparison, tbh theres hardly any difference between this gen and last gen except newer ones run a lot cooler so overclock a lot further (bit like skt754 and skt939 cpu's?)

The 7800 is 256 also.

Both of those are SLi set-ups (according to the 'name' and 'description' at the top). Both set-ups are overclocked, but the 7800gtxs are at the maximum that you can overclock any 7800gtx on air (or at least close to it) while the 7900gts have quite a mild overclock compared to what they can reach. With only 1 7900gt I can get close to 11,000 with my CPU at 2.4. Once those 2 7900gts are overclocked properlly you'll see the beast in them really come out and flatten the 7800gtxs.

Edit: In fact vocch has scored 11,700+ with just a single 7900gt on air. That'd probably mean he could get 11,400 or so with his CPU at 2.4ghz.
