So i just went upto a new Gym that's opened up recently in my area.

It's called Roko.

Very posh and very swanky and had a good look around.

20 metre swimming pool.
Free weights.
Cardio machines
Deadlift machines
Incline/Decline etc...

Seemed a nice friendly place and a few of my mates from work go there so i signed up.

£50 a month and i can use pretty much anything barring the sun bed's and i get consultations with a trainer every so often etc.... and all the machines can record how well you are doing and you can then look it all up on their website.

Do you think that's a good price or have i been stiched up good n proper

Anyone else belong to a Roko Gym?

Is there an initial joining fee as well?

What about tie in clauses? Ive been caught out by one that said I couldnt leave unless I moved more than 25 miles away, died or transferred my membership (of which I did the latter in the end).

I had to pay £51 which is the -

£10 admin fee
£5 joining fee
£36 pro-rata fee for this month.

Then £49 comes out on the 1st of every month via direct debit.

It's a 12 month contract but that doesn't bother me.

£50 a month?! for a pool and freeweights?! christ...i used to pay £25p/m and i got:

Freeweights
25m pool
more machines than you can shake a stick at
areas for yoga/swiss ball randomness
unlimited access to sauna, jacuzzi, sunbeds
unlimited use of facilities (subject to availability) e.g. squash, tennis, badminton, basketball

things 'as changed since i were a lad.

Should have said what else i get.

I get everything barring the sun bed but i get sauna, jacuzzi etc...

Also get yogo and training rooms etc...

most of the local ones down here are 30-40 a month at most, thats for EVERYTHING

That seems expensive, a friend joins one in liverpool for £27 a month with all access including Sauna, swimming pool. The uni ones are best thou, £35 a year

the old college one was pants but only cost 50p a time!
you could also buy membership time, then you got a 50% discount!

£30 a year for the uni gym, suits my wallet much better

I'm really lucky with my gym I pay £130 a year! But that's because it's an old boys gym at my school. If I was a member of public it would be over £300 a year.

That does seem like a good deal to me - and you do seem to be getting a lot for your money.

imo £50 is a bit of a rip-off mate, I used to pay £40 at my local and thats a very well-specced gym in a "money" area.

Ask yourself: are you going to actually get your moneys worth from it? Will you dedicate yourself to a set and very regular schedule and do it without fail every week?

If the answer is no, buy yourself an exercise bike, a set of weights and dumbells, and go jogging regularly in your area. A LOT cheaper in the long-run and will have a similar effect.

Aruffell, I was thinking of joining that Gym, but went for the Waterfront at Gillingham instead; I think I pay slightly less than that (I actually paid up-front for a year), but there's not much in it.

Bah i used to pay less than £20 for a year at my last gym, now i pay nothing it's great

Last gym was a raf one in kinloss, this new one is another raf gym in cyprus, cheapness. I refuse to pay the prices that normal gyms charge, rather just go running outside, use my bike, i know if you want to get some decent weight training done you need to get down to a gym.

That price includes pretty much everything barring the sun beds and i get a trainer to accompany me with consultations etc... and to help me reach my desired goal.

These normally cost extra at most gym's.

Indoor/outdoor pool jaccuzi/ sauna steamroom
Cardio equipment, about 10 different machines, 70 machines total.
Weights area and machine equivalents
Free classes, yoga, etc.
Bar/lounge area, free internet access.
Secure gated car parking.
Free Access to any gym in the chain (David lloyd) after 6 months membership.

Was there many members below say age 25, apart from reception staff, thats the only thing lacking lol.

It was mainly 17-25 year olds and then a big jump to some 50+ members lol

There was a few 30 ish year olds but not many.

Was a good friendly atmosphere

They had 4 reception staff there lol

Mine is 40 or 45 £ with Virgin and has a hell of a lot of facilities and a 12 month contract also which wont increase the price if I renew.

The main benefit is I can use any virgin gym in the country, your gym charges a bit too much and doesnt offer as good imo
