Yeah 50-60 is getting into the too hot area. The problem is probably that the IHS has been removed. The A64 Cooler pro is designed to clamp down onto a CPU with the IHS fitted, but as yours does not, the CPU will be thinner, so the heatsink will not be making decent contact. You have several options of how to fix this; Buy a new cpu, Reattatch the IHS or buy a Cooler with screw mounts, which allows you to tightne it as much as you want(If you do go down this option, be carefull not to crush the core though.)

It will run cooler with a heat sink the makes good contact with the IHS off. I'd change the HSF. But you can put it back with some AS5 on the core and some silicon sealant down the sides.

There are loads. I have one that uses the two standard HSF bolts into the standard backing plate. Search the CPU forum, lots to read on the subject. Risk? To much TIM (AS5) , or that you don't get the IHS seated correctly and temps are rubbish. Then you'll have to cut the IHS off again.

My 2X 3800 idles in the mid 40s, and goes into the mid 50s under load. Personally as long as it always stays below 60C I dont think its anything to worry about. Every Athlon iv ever had (1Ghz, XP2000, 3500+ etc) have always been around these temps, 40s -idle, 50s - load.

I'd recommend either the Thermaltake Big Typhoon or Akasa Evo 120. I know the Evo 120 is screw down as I have one, and as far as I know so is the Big Typhoon.

Wow, you guys have some hot CPUs!

I have an AMD X2 4400+ max temp I have seen at 100% load is about 38 degrees! Averages between 32 and 35 or so.

22 degrees while idle

Well my new X2 4200 runs around 32 idle and 38 load so I aint far off you :p That's using the stock cooler too!

If its running too hot, check that there isn't much dust over the heatsink fins coz that can REALLY make a difference to the temps.
