I was thinking about getting an x1800 but after finding out you need a minimum of 450watt and my akasa 400watt is not suitable I was suitably annoyed.

Can any recommend a reasonably priced PSU that will sort a x1800 minimum.

Sorry to tell you this but you have just wasted your money on a new PSU. You akasa would be more than adequate. The only reason they recommend 450watts is because some of the cheap psus that come built into atx cases are really poop. They are labeled as 300, 400, 450watt etc when really they have a max sustained load of about 200watts or less. They are just trying to cover their asses.
