I notice there wasnt a thread on this in here and I always find it interesting to know the answer to... What is your favourite lyric (not necessarily of all time, just for how you're feeling now), from what song, and who is it by?

I am really liking the following lyrics:

and i can swallow failure just to learn, and i can build bridges from, what you burn

These are all taken from Hell is for Heroes - I can climb mountains... I just like the lyrics and how whoever wrote them has turned around two reasonably well known sayings and turned them into a positive...

I have many other fav lyrics and will add them as I remember them! I was just happening to be listening to that song and realised, wow, i love these lyrics!

Cord - Winter

When our love grew tired
We lost desire
Was it all the stress and struggle, the constant pressure to provide
Was it just never right?

Can we battle on?
See it through
And there was never any sign of where or when the sky turned blue,
Only the storm and you.

Now you're living as you want to live
You'll be kissing someone else's lips,
Just like you were before me...

You took the sun out of my summer time,
Now it's just bright light,
And it might as well be winter.
I'm bored of crying,
I'm bored of these lies,
I'm bored of me trying,
You go off and please yourself, just like you usually do.

Going in reverse
Can be far worse
Now that we're becoming strangers you can't admit it doesn't hurt,
Abandoning all that worked.

Now you're living as you want to live,
You'll be kissing someone else's lips,
Just like you were before me...

You took the sun out of my summer time,
Now it's just bright light
And it might as well be winter...

Hey, if you wanna know the truth about it,
I guess I love you still.
If I'm crawling back in bed beside you, you know it's just, to kill...

You took took the sun out of my summer time,
Now it's just bright light
And it might as well be winter...
I'm bored of crying,
I'm bored of these lies
I'm bored of me trying,
You go off and please yourself, just like you usually do...

"A scene set to singe innocence
Upheave, unhinge, and pit against
Like every made for TV movie should..."

"...We are, we know, we see, we think for you
The who, the what, the when, the where, the why
We build your young, we build you too, we see you all."

From the song Made for TV Movie by Incubus, it is about people repeating past mistakes and not learning from them and also the power of the media to skew our views etc.

Funeral For A Friend - Storytelling:

We'll start a fire, and burn some bridges. We'll make it out of here tonight.

Funeral For A Friend - Roses For The Dead:

You look just like your father, and you look just like your father.
Forgive me my father, your son is smiling.

Green Day - Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life):

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go.
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why. It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time.

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars

If I lay here, if I just lay here... Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

All that I am. All that I ever was. Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see.

Thursday - This Side Of Brightness:

All the good times that pass, all the friends we lose in a lifetime on our way.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge:

She sees my good deeds and she kisses the wind.

It's hard to believe there's nobody out there, it's hard to believe I'm all alone.

Hell Is For Heroes - Night Vision:

Under a blanket of fear,
down a bottomless pit,
I've been waiting for this night to open my eyes.

Wide awake i see in the dark,
see the fences breaking apart,
get together with my old friends.

Once again we breathe in the air,
escape to somewhere far from nowhere.

Where the sky's been tainted red,
Where the sky's been tainted...

Up on a bank by a stream trading memories for dreams,
fading echoes and pictures we burn at the seams.

And now our wings are painted gold,
they'll make idols of us yet.
Empty promises they sold,
will reach their best before dates soon...

I can see it all.

Pitchshifter - A Better Lie™

If I could be bothered, I would think of a better lie...
...But I don't like you enough to even try.

earthtone9 - Grind And Click

Grind and click
Grind and click
Grind and click
Grind and click
The bomb goes off
With a grind and a
Click, no flick of
The switch, but
With a knife to the wrist
Blows my mind every time
Blows my mind every time

Tool - H.

And the snake is drowned and
As I look in his eyes,
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of those times.
I could have cried then.
I should have cried then.

And as the walls come down and
As I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of the times
I have died
and will die.
It's all right.

I don't mind.

Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me

What would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?

I never said thank you for that,
now I'll never have a chance.

Snow Patrol - Chocolate

You're the only thing that I love
It scares me more every day

Bruce Springsteen - pretty much everything he's done
Brilliant Disguise has some fantastic lyrics though

I hold you in my arms
as the band plays
What are those words whispered baby
just as you turn away
I saw you last night
out on the edge of town
I wanna read your mind
To know just what I've got in this new thing I've found
So tell me what I see
when I look in your eyes
Is that you baby
or just a brilliant disguise

I heard somebody call your name
from underneath our willow
I saw something tucked in shame
underneath your pillow
Well I've tried so hard baby
but I just can't see
What a woman like you
is doing with me
So tell me who I see
when I look in your eyes
Is that you baby
or just a brilliant disguise

Now look at me baby
struggling to do everything right
And then it all falls apart
when out go the lights
I'm just a lonely pilgrim
I walk this world in wealth
I want to know if it's you I don't trust
'cause I damn sure don't trust myself

Now you play the loving woman
I'll play the faithful man
But just don't look too close
into the palm of my hand
We stood at the alter
the gypsy swore our future was right
But come the wee wee hours
Well maybe baby the gypsy lied
So when you look at me
you better look hard and look twice
Is that me baby
or just a brilliant disguise

Tonight our bed is cold
I'm lost in the darkness of our love
God have mercy on the man
Who doubts what he's sure of

I love:

'Don't say you're easy on me, cos you're about as easy as a nuclear war
Duran Duran - Is there something I should know

You've left me with nothing to win and nothing left to lose
U2 - With or without you

Ooh eee ooo aaahh ahhh ting tang wallawallabing bang
Cartoons - (ok, not really :p)

In the twist of seperation, you excelled at being free
Take That - Back for Good

And...pretty much all of 'Fix you' by Coldplay.

So, so many. These are just a few that mean things to me.

No Doubt - Bathwater

And the bags are much too heavy,
In my insecure condition,
My pregnant mind is fat full with envy again

The Muffs - Honeymoon

Any time, Any place,
Yeah it's nice to see your face,
And it's true that I still want you,
In the most obnoxious way

Bobby Conn - Home Sweet Home

Got food in my garage, my garage is very large

The last one keeps getting stuck in my head on loop.

I don't know where,

Confused about how as well,

Just knowing these things will never change for us at all

Fantastic song, my favourite so far this year.

HOLD YOUR FIRE (Patto/Halsall)

Hold your fire
Don’t shoot me
I’m in need of a friend
And I’m cold and seeking shelter from the storm
Put aside your rifle

Help me steer around the bend
Help me find my way back to the road for home

You see I’d grown my hair, I got my head all straight
Went after the American dream
But I always ended up outside looking in on someone’s scene
I was raised on hope and plastic carrot strung out right before my face
I chased every pretty woman looking my way twice but they all disappeared without trace

I’ve been shoved around from town to town it came so naturally
I’ve been stopped and searched maybe fourteen times on my way from A to B
I’ve been pointed at by children while I was sleeping in the park
And I was heading home dejected when I scared you in the dark

Hold your fire, etc.

You could see me there at every happening with my album by the Byrds
I was shown how to question the great "I Ching" but I could dig some of the words
I’ve smoked a ton of marijuana, I sat crossed legged till my legs went numb
I made peace signs at the farmers when they called me a no good bum

I’ve read pornographic literature and I’ve studied the underground press
I had given my all to Krishna who I was told would not take less
I spent three weeks making necklaces from oriental beads
They were stolen by my guru while I was high on glory seeds

Hold your fire, etc.

See I’d taken to wearing sandals and I’d given up watching T.V.
I was rolling up grass in the American flag and I was sick from snorting "C"
I blew my mind out on a trip one night and I ran all the way back to town
But the minute I saw the lights in their faces I freaked and turned right around

Well my skin turned yellow and my eyes sunk back from my diet of boiled brown rice
I would shuffle past bright warm houses to my groove pad cold as ice
I’ve been beaten down and busted and I’ve wound up on my own
And there’s nothing left that buzzes me so I’m returning home

Hold your fire, etc.

Everyone who likes good guitar music and a little Jazz rock fusion should listen to Patto..

The Stone Roses - Mersey Paradise

I want to be (I want to be)
Where the drownings are (drownings are)
You see it in the sea
River cools where I belong
In my mersey paradise

All my favourite lyrics are by The Macc Lads and I can't repeat any on here.
However and edited brilliant lyric goes thus -

She said I was good looking, and looked a bit like George Michael
But she didn't want a *******, she was on her menstrual cycle,

You get the idea.

Happy to see another Hell is for Heroes song lyric there! Another of my favourite lyrics is from Metallica - Fade to Black (its a bit depressing but it has helped me through some rought times this song)

Things are not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this cant be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now hes gone

On the opposite side of everything, for happy lyrics there are The Boy Least Likely To - Be Gentle With Me:

Staring up into the solar system,
All the stars are fixed up in the sky.
I just want to sparkle for a moment
Before I just fizzle out and die.

I'm happy because I'm stupid.
Scared of spiders, scared of flying.
If I wasn't so happy,
I wouldn't be so scared of dying.

Ryan Adams - Come Pick Me Up
come pick me up
take me out
**** me up
steal my records
screw all my friends
behind my back
with a smile on your face
and then do it again

Rilo Kiley - Portions For Foxes
I keep on talkin' trash but I never say anything
And the talkin' leads to touchin'
and the touchin' leads to sex
and then there is no mystery left

The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?
Instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of you
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel

Believe, believe in me, believe

That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight

And you know you're never sure
But your sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
And the embers never fade in your city by the lake
The place where you were born

Believe, believe in me, believe

In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight

We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight

Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight

That's the quote I left in my school yearbook. :)
