I have a WD raptor for sale in the marketplace, the drive is currently in the pc i am using at the moment and has the os running on it.

I have a seperate HD which holds all my personal programs etc.

How do i go about wiping/formatting the WD Raptor when its currently my main drive with os on it

OS is windows XP by the way

Put you xp cd in and boot up, as if you were going to reinstall windows, then go to the repair mode, which is like dos, and run format from there. I think that should work. If not, then get hold of a windows 95/98 recovery disk and run dos from that. Or get another drive, install window on it, and add the current OS drive as a secondary drive and format from windows.

Get hold of the Western Digital drive installation software which should be bootable off CD, then use that to completely remove the partition.
Western Digital Data Lifeguard Tools from DOS floppy or bootable CD then run a low level format (or write zeroes to the drive). This will ensure there is very little chance of data recovery on the drive.
