First of all i would like to apologise for this post, this is probably a type of post you get a lot and you are probably getting sick of them.

Im looking to build my first PC, ive done a little background research but i think i may be a little too old and stupid to understand everything. Ive worked out what i want and the cost, but im not sure if all the bits im getting will work together. Could some kind person tell me if the following bits and pieces will work together, and if ive got something wrong tell me what to replace it with.

604708 AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 90nm 1MB L2 (939 Pin) - Retail with Fan (********.co.uk) £148.05

Asus A8N SLI SE PCI-E (Socket 939) Motherboard £74.88 (********.co.uk)

Corsair ValueSelect 1GB DDR2 (2x512MB) PC4200 Dual Channel Kit £120.28 (2x60.14)

TekValue nVidia GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3 Dual DVI/TV Out (PCI-E) – Retail £190.35

Sapphire Black Deluxe Midi Tower Case with 460w PSU £29.32

Also im looking to build this pc to play games on, will this set up allow me to play the current games at decent settings? And if i can get any of the bits cheaper does anyone know where?

Thank you in advance for your help

Yeah, get DDR memory and get a better case/PSU.

Get any case you like but you should be getting a decent PSU such as a Hiper, Tagan, Seasonic or Enermax.

Welcome to the forums, all components are compatible now. We can't advise about where to get parts cheaper other than saying if you have a look on OcUK you might actually find you can save some money, the motherboard is cheaper,in fact all the parts might be marginally cheaper for the same or equivalents. Also do you already have a hard drive/optical drives etc?

Thanks semi-pro, for the advice and the warm welcome.

I think your right that some of the parts and equivilents are cheaper on overclockers.co.uk.

I forgot to mention that i have a HDD, DVD Drive and DVD re-rewriter from my old pc, there in good nick so the plan was to slap them into the new pc.

Couple of further questions, i might be able to strech my budget a bit further and get a 3800+ duel core. Is it worth the extra money to get this chip, or am i still cool with the 3700+ non-duel core.

Also what kind of performence could i expect on say Battlefield 2 for instance? Would it be good or average?

hi semin-pro waster may disagree with me but i think you should not get the dual-core and instead buy the single core and overclock it you will save a lot of money this way.

you will have to wait for someone to answer tyour question about battle field 2 as i have never played it

I'm afraid I disagree with you too :D If you can comfortably stretch your budget for an X2 3800+ then I think it will be a good investment. The 3800+ clocks quite well so it should be well worth the extra moolah you spend. It should also last you longer than the 3700+. But again only if you can reasonably afford to. Dont break the bank because the 3700+ is a quality chip and as said can be overclocked nicely.
