I'm not usually one to comment on the controversial and I'm more or less allergic to Speaker's Corner, but I've felt for some time now that in a family forum where swearing, pornography and violent imagery is banned that casual racism (and it IS racism) is allowed to be so prevalent. Of course debate is allowed and encouraged and I fully support that, but all too often unrelated threads are ruined by casual one line comments from members that should really know better. My main concern is not that it is offensive (though some may find it so) but it is deeply wearisome that threads which do not pertain to Muslims at all become railroaded into yet another veil discussion.

The thread today about firms banning Christmas for fear of offense is NOT the fault of Muslims, it's the fault of our ridiculous PC state. Then someone sees fit to post a link to the BBC news article that the C4 Christmas speech will be read by a veiled woman. Christmas in this country is about as far from religion as you can possibly get, and people trying to uphold traditionalist Christian principles purely for the basis of stirring up a trench mentality is a bit sick.

The British white population of this country is not suffering and Muslims are not at fault, unless you are so blinkered as to believe everything you read in the press, so stop pretending otherwise. By all means debate the subject but comments like the one below make me sad to be British when I'm immensely proud of what this country really stands for.

People worldwide are genrally either good or bad - that is of course on an individual basis. Therefore I think is acceptable to say, for example, an individual is bad, but not acceptable to say a creed/race etc is bad.

Generalisations are dangerous.

Please don't be embarrased to be British - otherwise it will mean nothing tro you and you give creedance to the very attitude you take exception to, symbolising Britishness!

to quote.........well me.....from another thread......lol

Lets all go to UK immigrants homelands, setup english pubs, promote busty barmaids in short skirts, swearing, drinking the lot, then celebrate xmas and other western festivals, oh and while im there ill try to ban any native festivals to them as it offends me, also thinking about it, ill get there government and there native people to pay for it all, again while your at it, ill have a nice monthly wage as well for sitting on my ass if you please dont mind thankyou very much please come again

Sounds mad doesnt it, can you IMAGINE if that really DID happen anywhere on earth ? :D

Thats the general perception of the UK native public unfortunately, the question is, does this REALLY happen ? and if so, WHY, again the decision (of course if it really happens) is out of the people who will end up paying for it, if things where done more fairly (in the eyes of the UK public) perhaps there would be less of a perception of general racism

EDIT: Who's the woman in your sig one more solo, shes purdy, lol EDIT2: Dammit the sig changed ! RUDE ! lol

I think the families of what happened on the london trains would disagree, although they were muslim extremists.

That is the most ridiculous argument I've ever heard. Any Muslim would tell you those people are not Muslims, in the same way any Protestant would tell you the UVF aren't Christian. They aren't religious extremists, they're just extremists, end of.

Do you think your sig is appropriate to a family forum (or one that people browse at work)?

Most of the muslim threads are started as a result of a news article - maybe if there were less articles about muslims (i.e. they keep themselves out of the news) there'd be less racism on here?
