Have you ever lived in Pakistan?

/Edit: Hope you don't mind a personal question! :D

No i havent and i dont think i could live there tbqh. I visit there quite a bit as my parents have a house there in Islamabad, Karachi and a cabin up near Kashmir. Living in Pakistan is a whole different kettle of fish, im far too western in my thinking and the way i am to actually go and live there...going there on holidays/business trips is as about as much as i can take.

I class myself as English, and im also a Muslim, i dont define myself as a certain percentage of anything.

I have no problems in fitting, whether that going to the pub and socialising without drinking, or only having egg and cheese melt on a friday instead of bacon and egg, I couldnt give a rats ass whether someone here would accept me as English or not.I even follow the national, infact i have been to several tournament with the supporters club

On the other hand i have been also called a Bounty several times by asians, again i dont care, i love this country and what it has done for me and my family, im very greatfull infact.

I dont think anyone has cause for complaint in this country, the opportunities are there for all if they want to work hard.

I think asians still have many hang-ups however, until they get rid of the bloody enclaves in the north and south and actually bother to integrate, they wont find out that this country and its natives (well most of em) are actually a pretty great bunch. Its down to some natives to stop continually villifying us, yes have some things to answer for, but bloody hell we aint all the sodding same.

For ex someone posted up a pic of monty panesar a while back, and wasnt happy that this bloke was giving his all for his country, and then on the other hand you want us to feel part of this nation

Good post - and a point well made IMO :)

I'm not surprised they don't feel 'British'. Why would you 'feel British' if the government encourages you to preserve and adopt the heritage of your families original country as opposed to the one you're in? To be honest 'British' means nothing to me either and I'm white and my family have lived in England for god knows how many generations.

Cool, you've confirmed what I thought. :)

I wonder if you've ever had to put up with 'go back to Pakistan' when you feel home is in Canada, lol. :D Miles apart. Thanks for that Spawn

It's like the proverb about a dog being born in a barn; it's still a dog, not a horse.
That's a completely inappropriate analogy. We're not talking about a different species, we're talking about nationality, *not* species. It's nothing like a dog being born in a barn at all, it's a horse being born in a different corner of the barn.

Nor would I, and nor do millions of well-behaved, law-abiding native Britons. You don't need to behave like a thug or be a binge-drinker to be British.
You just need to look like one, right? Wasn't it you who said that after a generation or so, any white immigrant would be able to legitimately call themselves British, but that one drop of non-white blood would effectively preclude them or their descendants from doing likewise?

Something I find interesting about the report:

Among the Sikhs, 77% said they felt completely British or a lot
A total of 59% of the Asians polled felt they were British, compared to 73% of white people.

And also more ZOMG IZLAMZ considered themselves British than Hindus or Christians and also feel moer satisfied with life and believe that there are more oppurtunities even though they are near the bottom with the question asking whether they feel people consider them to be British

This seems to back up what I've always believed which is that a lot of Asians although born here, consider themselves foreigners in a foreign land.

To the Asians on this forum, do you feel British? How many Asians are 100% British?

Class thread as always DD keep it up :D

will reply later but im not surprised at these findings at all.

Same here Spawn, i have never really been particularly bothered about racism, as

A: I can give as good as I get &

B: If someone as narrowminded as that has a pop at me, so what, i know im better than them in every which way, this is why im never bothered about much stuff thats posted here.

If true, that's appauling imo. Being British, can be defined in many ways but skin colour should not be one. If an immigrant from one country can eventually be classed as British, then an immigrant from any country should also be.

to the OP, i'm a white english lad and i dont feel that british any more, let alone asians. they dont feel part of britain because of their culture... maybe thats because Britain isn't an asian country?

Britain has been diversified so much to the point that anything celebrated other than the immigrant minorities is made to feel 'dirty'.

so to be quite honest, i dont know what theyre on about...
