Images of items I have purchased (except trainers)

Balvenie 12 doublewood is about the most available single malt there is. Basically never wavers from 41 quid on Amazon.

The OCUK Whisky (and Whiskey) review thread

Benromach 10, almost at the end of my bottle. I've never yet rebought a bottle (as I prefer variety) but that one is such good value and such a good easy sipper that I'm tempted to make an exception.

    Cooking with Jonny69: baking bread.

Just using bog standard supermarket plain flour atm. Though if I feel like keeping up the habit (I suppose more than 1 loaf a week) then I'll do some bulk online ordering and look for something higher quality. Only one loaf at a time at the mo, and you are right they do go quick! I wouldn't...

    Cooking with Jonny69: baking bread.

Have been working on my sourdough starter for what feels like months now, finally got round to some actual baking. Third attempt today has gone ok I think. Happy with decent ear, good crumbs, and flavour and texture to eat is actually amazing. Just ate the heel now, still decently warm 20 mins...

    Interest rates increased

Indeed. I think if I do a new 5 year fix at say 3% instead of 2%, that'll cost me an extra 9k (just in interest) over the term. So if paying 3.5k ERC means I can get a 1% lower deal, then it's well worth paying. I don't forsee rates going up a whole 1% between now and 1st July (when I can...

    Interest rates increased

3k mortgage is bold, fair play. Hope you either kept the receipts for the lube or have some seriously good income protection insurance. My 5 year fix is ending in September, desperate to try and renew soon. We fixed for 5 (at a relatively high rate of 2.32%) as expected brexit to be a...

    The Hot Sauce thread

Quite enjoying the Encona Exxxtra hot sauce at the moment. Again just a common supermarket one (I do love the Sriracha too) but it's the perfect heat level for a good whack that isn't too much. Just looking at bottles of hot sauce sets my saliva glands going.

    OcUK Dadsnet thread

Oof that's a fair ordeal. The thought of being stuck in a waiting room waiting for a never-appearing doctor brings back some character building memories. Must have been extra fun when the whole purpose is to rule out sepsis. Hope your son gets better soon.

*****Official BBQ Thread - Suns out, Buns out!*****

Just looked it up and kindle edition is 99p, bargain! Has all the pictures and everything. Have been meaning to go a bit more 'next level' with bbqing this year - as in not just the standard pulled pork, brisket, ribs, wings etc. - so this should help a lot, cheers.

I wouldn't. Wood is hardly so expensive or hard to find that you need to go flavouring your food with old paint.

Yeah but think of the prestige. Turning out really nicely cooked food for that many is a good effort. Any pics?

    Journey to London

Might be cheaper and easier to just buy a flat in Islington and walk from there I reckon.

    Journey to London

If you're coming from Wiltshire, the extra half an hour (at the very least, you'll be going round the M25!) to get to Edgware rather than Hounslow is definitely not worth shortening/simplifying the tube journey. I think drive to Swindon/Reading/Slough (pick one based on petrol cost vs train...

    Journey to London

Just use a contactless credit card for the tube, you won't get near 20 quid let alone 30 even for both of you, both ways.

Spec me - cheap station car

Went for a mazda3 in the end. 48k miles and 06 plate so fairly old, but aside from a bit of blistering on the alloys, looks more like 6 years old than 16. 1.6l engine is juuust about not completely underpowered, been a week and pleased so far.

    OcUK Dadsnet thread

Remember the 30 free hours are only 'term-time', so if you do year-round childcare, you have to pro-rate it down as a weekly quota as applicable. Still, it makes a heck of a difference. Until your next child starts nursery... We're seeing our nursery struggle for staff too. Manager left...

This is getting ridiculous (energy prices)

So the small particles are heavier than air? Do they only go up in first place because the air they are carried by is so much hotter than the ambient air?
