When are you going fully electric?

I own a Tesla Model Y and use Premier Inn frequently. Stopped in one last month next to Manchester airport the night before flying to Disneyworld and tends to be be the first place I look for a hotel if we are doing an overnight somewhere. Just because someone chooses to buy an EV car it doesn't...

What is fundamentally flawed on your car?

Found two things on my model Y but one has since been fixed via a software update: - Child locks - You can only enable/disable both back doors together. Every time I take my parents out I have to open the door for them or disable the child locks at the end of the journey - Now fixed - Charging...

    Garden shed on concrete block

I'd definitely go down the tiger sheds route, far better built. Ideally you don't want the base to be bigger than the shed else water will land on the base then run underneath. To fix that you just need to raise the shed off the slab. One option is to use 6ft lintels lay flat on the slab, or...

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

With those I've spoken to your approach seems to be in the minority. Everyone that's approached me after seeing the install has wanted to know how much it cost and how much it'll save me. There's in reality very little benefit other than cost of on-site microgeneration versus purchasing electric...

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

Yes I built it into the ROI but the numbers at the time were somewhat a guesstimate given I've no first hand experience of how it would work in reality. I've had another look and would probably revise the numbers up now slightly. On my current tariff (31p day, 7.5p night) it could in theory...

Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

I came to the exact same conclusion which our installer also reinforced. The useful economic life of battery storage is circa 10 years and at best the average house will recoup the cost over that time. This is money I could be investing and seeing a far better return on (even at a conservative...

Built in dishwasher catching on both sides on the adjacent cabinet, help me fix

Yes taking a multitool to the carcass is bodging it. They will only have a thin laminate finish, which will be removed leaving exposed chipboard that will over time absorb water from loading the dishwasher and blow the panels. Personally I'd loosen a few of the nearby fixings for the carcasses...

Why do number plates change twice a year?

It used to be once a year however it meant that there was a huge surge in people wanting to buy cars to be delivered on the day of the new plate. To try and smooth out the peaks of new cars the plates were moved to twice per year.

    Tesla Model Y

All ready to collect mine on Saturday morning from the NEC. Blue with Gemini wheels and black interior so will look the same as Del Lardo's bar the interior colour. I'll post some photos once I've picked up.

    Tesla Model Y

Had my VIN issued today so hopefully won't be waiting too much longer. From reading the Tesla forums it looks like collection should be early March. I also did well out of the part-ex offer on the Kodiaq. We Buy Any Car was £27.5k, Motorway £27k-£29.5k and Tesla have offered £29.7k. Not bad...

    Big estate/SUV - opinions please!

Given the high spec I'd be worried the more expensive one was a press car. Most of the reviews of the 6GT are for YJ67 reg cars. I considered a 6GT and found one that perked my interested with a crazy high spec until I watched some video reviews on the car and realised it was the exact same car...

Cheap paint for a rented flat?

Much prefer little greene, far easier to apply and the opacity / finish is exceptional.

Cheap paint for a rented flat?

For cheap paints by far the best I've used is Leyland trade. Can buy it in huge tubs, has great opacity and goes on nicely. I keep a tub of it in the garage to use as a base coat if I'm covering a darker colour.

    Big estate/SUV - opinions please!

Complete curveball (and I'm biased because I've ordered one), but what about the Tesla Model Y? It'll be circa £17k more than the budgets you've listed but you won't pay £500/year road tax, will probably save £2k/year in fuel and will likely be slow to depreciate versus the bubble that used car...

Question for those with 7 seaters & young kids

Ironically I have one but it's currently in the boot . It's one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01HGO35Z4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The seat shown in the picture is usually in the wife's Volvo XC60 but temporarily had it in mine over Christmas and...

Question for those with 7 seaters & young kids

Purely installed inline with the instructions for the carseat. Personally I think it's complete overkill but I'm not qualified to assess the performance of a carseat and would never purposely install a car seat against the mainufacturers instructions.

Question for those with 7 seaters & young kids

This is the best you can get in the Kodiaq with the Isofix in place. Seat won't technical move without the back folding forward but you can use the lever underneath to slide the seat forward. Too small to realistically get anyone in:

Question for those with 7 seaters & young kids

I've got a Kodiaq aswell so will check later today. I'd say very unlikely though. Also worth noting my Isofix car seat also connects to the seatbelt which would prevent the seat moving. For the purpose of the test I'll remove the seatbelt from the carseat so it'll just have the 2 isofix and top...

    Tesla Model Y

I've this morning had an email to confirm my pre-delivery details and can now see the finance options. No confirmed date but looks like things are progressing. Does anyone have an idea of the typical gap between being asked for your pre-delivery info and getting the car?
