I've just reinstalled Windows onto a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB (NVME), previously I had been using a Samsung 850 Pro 1tb (SATA). So far, I cannot tell any difference in general use at all. In fact, I suspect it's booting a tiny bit slower!
When I was young we always used to stay in Wootton Bridge. It's in-between Cowes, Newport and Ryde so is quite convenient for accessing the larger towns.
We used to spend most of our time on the beach at Sandown. Shanklin is nice too. Osborne House is impressive. Fishbourne and Bembridge are...
Sounds very unlucky. Without wising to tempt fate, my reference RX6800 is probably one of the best cards I've ever owned. Quiet, quick and no problems with drivers at all.
Are you using two separate PCI-E cables to power it? I've heard using just one cable (with two plugs) has caused problems...
Not an entirely fair comparison as I got it for free, but I was given an 11700k and a Z590 TUF motherboard by a family member who rushed to Alderlake at first opportunity.
Coming from an 8700k I don't think it's a bad upgrade. In gaming I'm not seeing a huge increase in power consumption and...
Since my EVGA P2 was 5-6 years old I decided to replace it with a Fractal Ion+2 Platinum 860w. Seems decent enough, it's quieter than the EVGA and the cables are impressively flexible. Only downside is it seems to whine when the PC is switched off, but since I don't use the room when I'm not on...
I have been given an 11700k and a Z590 motherboard by a family member who wasted no time updating to Alderlake!
I figure I might as well use it since it's free and it should be a bit of an upgrade over my 8700k (not expecting much though).
Will my trusty old Noctua U14s be up to the task of...
I don't think that laptop will be officially supported by Windows 11 regardless of secure boot. You need an 8th Gen Intel or newer (or a very select 7th Gen model) and that laptop is 3rd Gen? i think Windows 11 also wants a DX12 graphics card and the E6430s seems to only have DX11 options.
Ugh, why does Windows 10 periodically present a screen at bootup asking me to continue setting up my PC? It's been setup for years! I needed to quickly access my PC for a document earlier and it got stuck on "just a moment" for 10 minutes.
I recently had to upgrade my father's old ivybridge PC after the motherboard died. The spec is as follows:
Integrated UHD 630 graphics
B560M Aorus Pro AX (latest bios)
16GB (2x8) Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz DDR4 (XMP)
WD SN750 250GB (boot drive)
Crucial BX200 250gb / Samsung 860 EVO...
The owner of the PC doesn't seem to care, so I'll just leave it - temps are good anyway. In fairness the PC in its previous form did sound like a hairdryer (from where it had probably never been cleaned out), so it's technically an improvement!
