PC vs Console, has high GPU prices played a part?

Exactly. Sometimes the botched jobs of porting a game to PC can be to buggy. Sometimes playing on consoles can elevate this.

Time for a new GPU, what to buy?

6800xt is a great card. Better than 3070ti overall for gaming. If your happy to wait for those fe cards Especially the 3080ti. Understandable if the price is deemed overpriced because it is for what they are now.

PC vs Console, has high GPU prices played a part?

Ps5 putting games on PC is just to get new console buyers. They would only release the prior game of a particular series. Still its great to get those exlusive games on PC.

worth upgrading from the 1070 without spending silly money?

I've also been rocking a 1070 since launch. It has been a wonderful card for my gaming and work. Since not purchasing any gpu since I have saved quite a good pot of cash for my next gpu however with this gpu shortage I don't feel happy splurging on a very high overpriced card. If your looking...

Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

I whole heartedly agree. I'm been in the postition of wanting to buy a 3090 fe, even AIB model even but the price hike in to edge of 2000 and now 3000 I deem completly unreasonable even though I can afford it.

    Nvidia recognises 10gb isn't enough - RTX3080 gets a VRAM upgrade

By discontinuing the FE varient I think the price jump would be near the ti price.
