PC vs Console, has high GPU prices played a part?

This^ My PC (5900X / 3070 TI) sees far less use than my consoles. The Series X & PS5 are just so easy to connect to a big TV, turn-on and start playing. Unless a keyboard/mouse/>120fps are absolutely-required, cosoles win. GamePass absolutely rocks on console:D, and to a lesser-extent on PC.

    30xx Series Founders Edition

A few observations/comments regarding my 3070 TI FE, starting with some hype-busting. #1. Ray Tracing is overrated. IMO it adds <1% to the the overall gaming enjoyment but takes ~30% performance. I neither need it nor use it. #2. DLSS is hit & miss. In some games it is difficult to tell the...

    3900x or 5900x

3900X is plenty for anything except serious productivity work. The 5900X shows great gains within gaming, assuming you play at lowish-res with a monster-GPU. When mated to a normal GPU & normal-res there will only be a few FPS difference. I owned a 3900X and now own a 5900X. TBH I wouldn't be...

My i7 2600K build is still good 10 years on - What current CPU has best VFM over the next 10 years?

3700X is the current best-bangh, and should have enough threads to run Windows 13 in 2031.

This is the best my 5900 can do with memory timings. Should I chase lower-CAS or higher MHz?

Just check that 1.15v is not holding the performance back. Try same settings with 1.2v, and run a few benches to see whether scores remain the same. These chips are quite resilient to not-crashing, but can drop performance when undervolted by too-much.

Just checked, and my Mobo PBO limits are as follows:- Using Mobo PBO bumps my R23 score past 23K, and the all-core clocks close to 4600MHz. It also nudges temps into the 80's (from late 60's).

Single-core boosts up to 4950MHz, but varies between 4800 & 4950 within R23. All-core boost is pretty stable aound 4450. R23 scores around 1610 / 22300 with above settings. The extra memory speed makes very-little difference for Cinebench, although it does add a few FPS within games. edit...

Testing CO now. -30 on all cores isn't stable (Prime95 reboots after 10-20mins), but -25 seems good so far. Only tested with memtest86, R23 & Prime95 for ~30mins each, so a way to go. Not really played with voltages either, other than VCore offset of -0.875v to keep temps below 70 for Cinebench...

It's an ASUS X570 TUF Gaming, with 1.150V SOC. I might be able to knock a little off the SOC as this is the Auto setting.

Got my 5900X yesterday. Only really played with the memory so far, but it's happily running B-Die @ 4133MHz / FCLK 2066MHz CL16. Attempting 4200Mhz/2100Mhz causes audio-glitches (but will loop memtest86, R23 & Prime), so sticking @ 4133 1:1. The IMC on this chip is not as good as the 4650G APU...

    Reference model Graphics cards

MS & Sony can sell consoles at a hardware loss because their business plan says they will recoup their money and make nice profits from subscription-services and game royalties later-on. NVidia & AMD do not have this loss-leader option for hardware sales. Hell, they can currently sell every...

    Reference model Graphics cards

I bagged a 3070 TI FE yesterday. I would have preferred a 3080 (non-TI), but beggars and all that. Stock seems to be dropping more & more-frequently recently, so I would expect prices of non-FE cards to begin falling soon.

    30xx Series Founders Edition

I have owned plenty of cards with varying degrees of coil whine. I cannot remember owning one that got quieter with age. The only solution that worked for me (every time) was limiting the FPS to a rate equal to / or just-over my monitors native refresh-rate (60Hz, 144Hz etc). This either...

    FINALLY A DEAL ON GPU'S - IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG (NVIDIA 3060 & 3060Ti) !!

The 3060 TI is by far the better-buy @ current suggested pricing.

How much WILL you pay for a graphics card?

I think current pricing will force many PC gamers onto consoles. i personally will not spend £400+ on a 4th-tier graphics card, when a PS5 or Series X offer similar graphical performance and a longer-lifespan for the same money.

Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

I think EA restricts the BF-series games to controller-only on consoles. Outriders is my go-to game at the moment. I have also spent hundreds of hours on Sea of Thieves, CoD and replaying the Halo-series (all work fine with M&K). The good thing about using M&K on consoles is that a poor or...

Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

I sold my 5700XT & Ryzen 3900 setup and moved to Series-X & PS5 gaming. Most FPS games I can still play with mouse & keyboard, plus the consoles go-nicer with a big OLED TV. 120FPS is more than "enough" for me. I prefer the Series-X over PS5 due to XBOX Ultimate, support of VRR (which makes it...
