it's not a firmware as such, it's a wrt linux distro running busybox, and it WILL fix your problem.

according to philjohn HP states that no dead pixels are acceptable. I'm not sure whether it's true? but for a monitor of this price it sounds right.
Mine seems to have the same white glow, colours look great though. Does seem to get darker at the bottom edge of the screen, anyone else notice...
