2d->3d via monitor doesnt crash, only TriDef. That said, as judmann points out above, you wont be alt-tabbing on purpose if you're opting for 3D. Turning 3D->2D (on the monitor, or via TriDef OSD) before alt tabbing has no effect on the TriDef crashing issue for me.
