    The England Cricket Thread

Winning 2-0 rather than 1-0 gets more points in the test championship and would move England up to second place.

    Joggers

I have some merino wool ones from Isobaa which are the easily the comfiest joggers I've had. They aren't cheap but they've had a lot of wear this lockdown.

    Lunch in Manchester

Late to the party but Ciaooo is probably the best pizza in Manchester at the moment, Rudys just feels a bit 'safe' compared to it. Although I'm not sure they open for lunch. Viet Shak though is awesome and they do a 9.99 any dish and a drink for lunch. Shack Fries ftw

The 5 year plan to £50k

Oop North is pretty competitive for skilled IT roles. I know we generally pay around your level plus 15% bonus and other benefits for Devs and we struggle to hang on to decent ones.

    Manchester Date ideas

Mediterranean but not specifically seafood, Evuna (tapas) has always been great whenever I have been, they have an NQ branch but only been to the Deansgate one. In the NQ Dusk Till Pawn is decent for cocktails and a bit different and also on Stevenson's square so it's near to other places like...

    This Business and Moment...

20 min walk vs the 45 mile drive each way I used to do. I used to have a company car and bought a new car when I left- in a year my car has 1700 miles on it, even in situation I would have driven in the past I find I would rather walk.

    This Business and Moment...

Can't say enough good things about being able to walk to work. The contrast between 30 hrs driving a week is incredible. Opposite problem is not driving to work and living in the city centre leads to a lot more boozing.

    This Business and Moment...

Just over a year in my new job for me and I've mixed feelings. I've never worked at a company that has looked after me as much as this and yet I'm not quite sure on my future development - I feel like the direction my role is going in might not be where I want to be. We have a big project...

The 5 year plan to £50k

Went travelling for 2 years in my twenties, came back with the conviction I needed qualifications to be able to do what I wanted in life. Took a job doing credit control covering maternity leave, ended up getting CIMA qualified and a degree, now on in excess of 50K up North, but for most of the...

Do you have a photo of yourself on your work email?

I like it and it wish it was enforced in my work. We have c300 staff, I've been here less than a year and we only had 160 when I joined so I don't know who tf most of the people are at the best of times.

    New Look on the rocks

I work for an internet fashion retailer, I can see why new look are struggling, they just can't compete. NDD for the UK & Ireland, super quick product developtment and social media saturation means their target market are buying their outfits on Wednesday/Thursday nights for their weekend out...

    Food in your larder?

Live in a flat, very rarely have more than a few days worth of food in. Most days I buy food for my evening meal on the way home from work. At a push I reckon I could last a week but it would be eating copious amounts of dried pasta, rice, porridge.

    Redundancy advice please.

How long have the other people worked there? They might pay lip service to the other criteria but at the end of the day if probably comes down to how much it costs and the less the service the less the redundancy.

    Instagram..

Lots of companies spend masive figures every month on paying 'influencers' to post about the brand on instagram. Nice work if you can get it, probably why there is an endemic of people paying for followers.

Changes to Scottish rates of income tax

Will end up with Scottish Government getting extra resource from Westminster because its cheaper than HMRC having to deal with extra tax bands.

Ban new home sales to foreign nationals...

Manchester also currently has a PRS addiction and a lot of the developments are pretty much only marketed in the far east. I bought my flat 5 years ago but I know a few people trying to buy in the city centre at the moment and its ridiculous the amount of developments which aren't even...

Anyone Voting in the Catalan Referendum?

Was down at the arc de triomphe tonight and the atmosphere was pretty convivial albeit a little downbeat after the speach. I'd like to think the end game of this is a proper referendum but doesn't seem like that will happen. Barcelona seems pretty split as a city but I was up in Girona today and...

    This Business and Moment...

My move was from a manufacturing company where alongside being an accountant I had to be IT and HR manager to a place where we have an HR department and about 50 people in IT and 10 in BI, and 5 in FP&A Etc So enjoying being able to concentrate on things I enjoy a bit more.

First ever House - thoughts on city center living?

I bought in Manc city centre 5 years ago, probably a very good time, I paid a lot less than the person I bought it off had 5 years earlier but now it's back up to that level if not more. The problem with the current development boom for buyers is most of the developments are PRS - there aren't...

    Ryanair cancelling flights

Just booked flights to Barcelona this morning as needed to use up some leave - not on the list but I think I'll wait a bit before booking a hotel.
