I do miss this as well. AM3 for all its faults had plenty of lanes available. 2 x 16 lane slots on FX990. X79 3820, 4820k were very affordable. X99 as well but started with the cut down number of lanes on the lower end CPUs.

Can see the new CPUs (Zen 5) being branded as 9000. I think it'd cause confusion with the current mobile lineup if they didn't as well.

The 2700X also has higher latency being a two ccx CPU Vs a single ccx 5700x3d. Not sure when that'd come into play during normal use though.

I think it's a psychology technique to make our current gear seem older / more outdated than it actually is. 9000 Vs 5000 for example seeming like a bigger gap than Zen 3 Vs Zen 5.
