Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Considering a step up from my Gaggia MDF grinder and was after some recommendations. Budget probably 3-400 but happy to spend less if it will get me a good jump in quality from the MDF. Ideally need to be able to use it both for my Gaggia Classic and for filter (V60 and Chemex). Cheers!

what incentives do your employers offer?

Incentives wise we have a bonus scheme which falls into two parts - profit based on the firm's overall profits and if you hit a certain performance rating you also qualify for a performance bonus.

Paying Tax on a one off payment

Hmmm suggest you look up ICTA 1988, ITEPA 2003, ITA 2007 for starters. Pretty sure they count as laws and they sure as hell say you have to pay tax in a vast number of circumstances!

Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Been using my Gaggia quite a lot recently - got a subscription going with Pact coffee and pretty pleased with it. I'm still using the original pressurised basket so have just ordered the non-pressurised one, along with some cleaning stuff, a blank basket to help with cleaning and a new tamper...

AV Receiver and speakers - £400 budget

Thanks for the advice, my budget is flexible-ish so I'll take a look at the BX2's, what's another £45 :p. Pretty set on the amp as it seems to get great reviews and the extra network features on the sony don't really interest me.

AV Receiver and speakers - £400 budget

Hi all After a bit of advice on first AV receiver and speaker set up. Currently have a Panasonic 42 inch plasma (TXP42X10B - bit old hat but has served me well for four and a bit years) which is used for sky tv, movies (PS3 as a blu-ray player) and occasionally music. Currently just have...

    Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

London Bikeathon next week and then my focus shifts to the Zurich marathon. It's not until April 7 but want to get a good two or three months of pure base training in to gradually build the mileage and make sure my body has time to get used to it. First marathon so nothing to go off but I'm...

    HIIT

No chance you burn 1900 calories riding twenty miles. Strava came out with that for the 63 mile ride I did last week (similar size and weight to you) and although that's a finger in the air job as well it's much more believable! Your argument about riding and running is flawed too! Running...

    Road Cycling Essentials

Had my bike over two years and still don't have clipless pedals so looking to change that. Wiggle have Shimano PD-R540 SPD SL for £24 so was thinking those and a pair of shimano shoes. Seem like a solid bet?

    Road Cycling Essentials

This shows the route http://leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk/londonbikeathon?gclid=CPKtjejGorcCFU3KtAodgCIAww. Looks mostly flat with a few hills (including box hill). My 50 miler was around 14mph, so would be looking at around 7 hours I guess if I could maintain that pace over 100 miles. I'd...

    Road Cycling Essentials

Hit 50 miles for the first time today. Doing the 100 mile route London Bikeathon in September so trying to get out on the bike more and gradually increase the distance on a Sunday so I'm in good shape when it comes round. Slow and nothing compared to what a lot of you guys can do but feels good...

Colour film of London in 1927

Funny how some shots would look completely different now (thinking around Tower Bridge and London Bridge) and yet others look almost identical.

LOL at BBC article on cheap living

In this particular case I think a bit more sympathy is due. She was with a partner when she had the kid from the sounds of it. We don't know the details but I am sure they would have been far more secure with at least one wage. Housing in the South East is beyond mad so I expect £675 a...

    Road Cycling Essentials

Got out on the bike again for the first time in a month and was confronted by a constant headwind :( Need to start riding more regularly as I'm not making much in the way of improvement at the moment, which is hardly surprising.

    Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

Did my first parkrun today. Mile End one for me and was really good, managed 23.58 which bodes well for the 10k I'm doing in four or five weeks time to get under 50 minutes. Quite a hilly little course though!

    Earphones for Running

Seems a bit overkill for running to me. I would be looking at some cheapish ones that clip round your ear so they don't fall off. If you're running on the roads, I wouldn't want noise isolating either, good to be able to hear a little bit of what's going around you just in case.

    Best TV for £1,000

Pretty sure a 60" won't fit but can always get the tape measure out to check. Think I'd need a new stand as well though whereas my current stand could probably just about cope with a 55". Cheers anyway, plenty to ponder.
