Hi Rich I had the same problem with the Taichi 1700 bundle, and it was indeed the Ram. It was an easy fix, but only if you have an older/slower spare stick of ddr4. I swapped out to this stick, which enabled me to boot into bios, then patched a more up to date bios, and replaced the old stick...

Since I spent a couple of days whining that i couldn't get this booted, it's only fair to say, now that I'm running fast, cool, and quiet, that I'm loving it - BF1 with a 1080ti and 8 real cores really makes a difference over my 2500k when playing at 1440p 144hz :D

What voltage you throwing in for 3.8 buddy? I've noticed that same pause you mentioned, just an occasional hiccup you don't expect from a multi-core processor

Perhaps the bundle AIO works better, I don't know, and my h110 has slower phanteks fans on it too, so I may be misrepresenting it. Temps aren't too high, but at some point this 1080ti is going to throw loads more hot air into the case, so I'm trying to get it right.
