Payraise.. how much do you expect? how much did you get?

Last year I got 0% as "the business was struggling" so I looked elsewhere and achieved a 45% pay rise. Remember people, you are most valuable to an employer when they first hire you. Loyalty rarely pays as you are often taken for granted.

On The Wagon... then in 'ere!

How do you guys deal with the expectation surrounding alcohol and celebrations? I've not had any alcohol for 20 days and would like to continue indefinitely, but I've been invited to an engagement party next month where they'll be an expectation to get hammered.

    Caffeine Detox Time

I've worked my way down to 1 black coffee and 3-4 green teas per day since Christmas. I've also not had any alcohol this year and I feel pretty great having escaped the stimulant / depressant cycle of caffeine to get me through the day beer to get me through the evening.

    The 500 year old question

I think the issue is how you'd keep up with changing culture and societal norms. I graduated from university 4 years ago at the age of 37. The kids had some really wacky ideas about the world and were totally different from how my friends and I thought / behaved in our twenties. Now magine...

    2023 - how's it been for you?

I think that this year has been one of the best I've had in years, perhaps a decade. However, the first half of the year was pretty rubbish with the last 6 months a real turnaround. 1. Hated my job and was terribly underpaid. I am an early career process engineer and had real fear that I was...

    Upgrade <£1000

My trusty i5 2500k / R390X has finally bitten the dust so I am looking to upgrade the internals of my PC. I use my PC for gaming @ 1080P / Youtube / MS Office. I don't need a PSU [850W gold], monitor, peripherals etc. If possible I'd like to use brands that have good UK based RMA [however, I...

So you've just become PM, what's on the menu?

    1. Sort out the tax system so that there are no loopholes / benefits that favour the wealthy. 2. Sort out housing. Ban on second homes, ban on foreign ownership, mass building of new council homes. 3. Part privatise the NHS, that is to say allow people on elective waiting lists to pay to be...

*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Yes I appreciate that 800 calories will be a challenge, realistically I imagine that I'll be doing 900 to 1000 cal per day (higher protein) as beneath my fat I am a large man. I have done prolonged fasting previously and once you get into it hunger isn't a problem, I'm hoping that this diet...

*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Well today I start Michael Moseley's Fast 800 Keto and so I got weighed and measured. Height - 6ft 2in Mass - 17st Waist (naval) - 46in Pretty horrific to be honest! For my height I should have <37 inch waist, which looks hilarious when you overlay this measurement on top of my stomach. So...

What's the furthest you have travelled to buy an item in person?

I once walked around IKEA to find that the items I was interested in were out of stock. This was a long and demoralising journey, the equal to any road trip storied in this thread.

Do you have time for people with a low IQ?

The job in question was very well paying for what it was, likely to retain staff to keep recruitment costs down. Everyone (this is not an exaggeration) hated it but couldn't leave as they were trapped by the inflated wage.

Do you have time for people with a low IQ?

I accept that on reflection that there were a great many mental issues in this warehouse as described in my post. However, I maintain that this place was populated with lower iq people. I don't wish to go into specific interactions, but recall that after the first day I resolved not to correct...

Do you have time for people with a low IQ?

Whilst at university I had a summer job in a warehouse and this was the only time I have spent any amount of time with really dim people. They were nice enough people but how they handled disagreement was very childlike, bitchy and mean. Substance and gambling addictions were rife and I've...

    UK Gun Laws

I have previously held a shotgun certificate, which I did not renew as I stopped recreational shooting. I found that the vetting process was thorough and adequate at stopping unsuitable people getting access to shotguns. I know people who were refused due to minor criminal convictions...

    Story behind your forum username?

Mine is a combination of the myth that lucky strike cigarettes had weed in them and whilst playing counterstrike went on a huge kill streak that was attributed to a lucky strike. Unfortunately I was beaten to the username so went 123.

How do you backup your backups? (Poll please!)

I have files on my pc (two discs), two separate usbs (one stored, and one on my keys) and finally one on the cloud.

    Moving to the North

I went to uni in Middlesbrough and still work in the town. IMO the high street is in a death spiral, with more and more of the shops closing (although the retail park is thriving and has good shops, I prefer to drive to York). The town really is a proper **** hole, there are a great many less...

Your tips to ensure good dental care and good all round breath?

Floss sticks have been a revelation for me since I discovered them a few years ago. So much easier to use than a length of dental floss/tape and are very cheap when bought in bulk from Amazon.

How was your 2022 and what are your plans for 2023?

2022 has been a poor year for me. I've had very poor health throughout the year and have gained loads of weight. My job sucks too as my job role within the company does not exist (employer has basically lied to me) and I have been working on **** projects that I have no interest in doing or...

    Swimming!

I've retaken swimming up this year and have to agree that it's a great way to exercise. I particularly love zoning out and getting deep into rhythmic breathing but this is difficult as people swim at different speeds. I too an in the middle lane, there is no hope of moving up to the fast lane...
