4K gaming with 144/165/240 Hz monitors

8 Is the sweet spot at the moment, there may be the rare exception than can make use of extra cores but faster cores are what makes the differnce in gaming right now.

4K gaming with 144/165/240 Hz monitors

Thats not really an upgrade for gaming. If you're using the pc for work purposes that makes use of the extra cores its an upgrade but for gaming it won't really make a difference. Only real upgrade on AM4 for gaming from a 5800x is a 5700x3d or a 5800x3d.

Is it worth upgrading from a 6800XT yet?

As a 6800xt owner I don't think so, I don't think the performance upgrade is worth the price you pay.

What do gamers actually think about Ray-Tracing?

To me RT at the moment is pretty pointless to use, graphics cards really don't have the grunt to run it, it's the future but the key there is future, it's still miles away from being worth using in my opinion. The biggest advantage of pc gaming for me is the fluidity of higher fps, RT is...

    Crashes to desktop - AMD/Radeon 6800XT-7900XT

Try disconnecting from the tinternet, run ddu, reinstall the drivers while the pc is offline. I've had windows do some right screwy stuff in the background when isntalling drivers before, completely messed up my drivers on my old 1080ti, tho i would have expected a system restore to fix it, but...

    2700x holding back 6800XT?

I run a 6800xt with a 5800x3d but that was an upgrade from a 3700x, however i also play at 3440x1440 at 100hz. Depending on the game the 3700x can bottleneck the 6800xt even at my resolution, it all depends what you are happy with. The 5800x3d was a noticable upgrade but as long as you're not...

What card are you currently rocking?

6800xt Red Devil, wasn't particualry happy with the price but everything was awful and at the time i bought it was easily the best price/performance around. Upgraded from a 1080ti, was on a full hard pipe loop and wanted get away from that and go back to air so it made sense upgrade at the same...

For those who dislike nvidia, why do you keep buying nvidia and not amd?

I used to tend to buy AMD/ATI back in the day most of the time as their price to performance was really good. The 290 was the last AMD card I owned as they stopped making anything worth buying in my performance slot really. I went to a 980ti which was a mess driver wise, worst card I've had for...

    AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

No unfortunately not, thankfully I play a lot of indie stuff these days so the 1080ti can just about hang in there still, but when this thing ***** the bed I don't know what the plan is, probably just stop gaming to be honest.

    AMD RDNA3 unveiling event

I was very tempted by the 6900xt deals as I'm still stuck on a 1080ti, but I just looked at it as I would be paying £650/£700 for a 2 year old, essentially now mid range GPU. The deals for the terrible market we are in weren't bad it just isn't really what I condsider a good deal in general...

    R7 1700 upgrade path on X370

I went from a 1700 to a 3700x on x370, made a big difference to games that weren't well multi threaded and a reasonable difference to ones that were, altho I am running a 100hz monitor. I also had a much easier time with memory speed. Was stuck at 3200mhz on the 1700, got the 3700x running at...

AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

Don't know if anyone has touched on this but what i find interesting as someone at 3440x1440 and couldn't give a crap about 4k at the moment. If big navi is within spitting distance of the 3080 at 4k, ampere doesn't seem to scale as well as the resolution drops compared to previous gens. If...

AMD Owners - how is your experience?

I've not used amd for a few years now, but was exclusively using ati/amd all the way back to the 9800 pro days, last card I had of their's was a r9 290. I've been hearing about how bad their drivers are for years, and have never experienced it. I've had little niggles like the mouse cursor bug...

Upgrading from my Ryzen 7 2700X

I'm running the same motherboard with a 3700x upgraded from a 1700. I also run 16gb 3866 8pack memory. The 1700 i managed get it to run at 3200 with decent timings after some fiddling manually. When i moved over to the 3700x it instantly booted at 3866 with xmp enabled, I manually changed it...

    MSI 980Ti > EVGA 1080 Ti - Worthwhile upgrade?

I used to have a 980ti and i5 2500k at 4.8ghz and it was already a bottleneck for the 980ti, console experience with certain games dropping frames to pretty much unplayable levels, this was back when the 980ti was current card, and there weren't that many games that were as multi threaded back...

    Looking for new gpu

An overclock would help a bit but ryzen does't really clock that much anyway. I run at 3440x1440 with a 1080ti, my 1700 was overclocked and I was running decent memory speed and timings but it just doesn't have the raw clockspeed to basically brute force tarkov. Some maps it will be ok like...

    Looking for new gpu

Just be aware when talking tarkov, its very unoptimised at the moment and the cpu is the limiting factor. Clockspeed is king for now so even with a more powerful gpu your highs will be better but you will still get lots frame drops running a 1600. I went from a 1700 at 3.8 to a stock 3700x and...
