All nice and dandy if you can pretty much guarantee picking up your emails. What would happen let’s say on the second Tuesday of each month when Bill Gate’s mob releases their updates / patches etc. which can be huge for a 3G connection?
RAID 1 is ok so long you have regular back-ups elsewhere. RAID 1 is good from a mechanical (disk failure) but provides NO protection against deleted files, virus or fire etc.
P8H77-I Windows Server 2012 Essentials
Have any of you guys used this micro motherboard for a Server 2012 essentials build? I’m having difficulties on reboot whereby some-times hangs; not good for a headless machine! any advise is more than welcome:D
Whatever you choose, off site backups are essential. Consider the weather this week, if your backup was onsite and the site was flooded, well I don't need to explain further;-)
Does the CPU fan run? Some motherboards shutdown if a rotating CPU fan is not detected which can usually be disabled in the BIOS.
Are there any audible beeps on startup?
HP Proliant Microserver running either WHS 2011 or WSE 2012 would my choice. Automatic client backups and server backups (selected shares or all), remote connectivity, streaming etc.
Have you considered repurposing hardware you may already have available to you to build a home server? WHS 2011 is as cheap as chips, brilliant automated client PC backups and can stream media.
