'Buy this because I get a nice kickback' wouldn't get the views I suspect. :D

    8700k worth an upgrade?

I game at 1440p and mostly play Hunt Showdown which is poorly optimized and will take all the cpu power you can throw at it. It's made by Crytek, the same guys that made Crysis.

    8700k worth an upgrade?

I've got a 8700k too and it's starting to show it's age imo, when I went from 1080ti to 3080 it basically made zero difference because I'm bottlenecked by the cpu (and the 1080ti is still very good to be fair). I've got the 'upgrade itch' though so even though I could probably make it last...

Windows defender steals 6 to 7% performance from Intel CPUs

Thanks for posting this, my 8700k is affected and for an aging cpu like this 6% is a lot. :)

    Thermalright LGA1700-BCF Frame Corrector.

Apparently it doesn't come with the lapping tool and that costs extra. :D

    Thermalright LGA1700-BCF Frame Corrector.

Is there any reason to get the Thermal Grizzly one over the Thermalright one since it's 3x the price and harder to get?

3080 FE Thermal Pad change: Mem Temps still 100c!! Help!

I couldn't let it go :) I ordered some Syy 157 and man is that stuff hard to spread and keep on the die, even after heating it up. It worked nicely though dropped the hotspot 10c compared to MX-5.

3080 FE Thermal Pad change: Mem Temps still 100c!! Help!

1.5mm ultimate pads helped a lot, memory and core temps are much better. Hotspot is still higher than I would expect, I guess MX5 wasn't the best choice. I'm going to leave it for now though as it's better than it was and I am sick of messing with it. :)

3080 FE Thermal Pad change: Mem Temps still 100c!! Help!

okay thanks for your help, I'll see what I can make of this mess but I think I am going to have to order some more 1.5mm.

3080 FE Thermal Pad change: Mem Temps still 100c!! Help!

Are you saying you only used 1.5mm on the die side? I followed an image I found that shows the new and old version, I apparently have the newer version and it says to use 1.5mm on the ram and 2mm on everything else.

3080 FE Thermal Pad change: Mem Temps still 100c!! Help!

Yeah the MX5 I used is making good contact, could it be the pads on the back of the card? I haven't replaced those yet but they didn't exactly hold together very well. Thought I'd leave the back until I know the other side went well but now I don't know what to think. The pads all are clearly...

3080 FE Thermal Pad change: Mem Temps still 100c!! Help!

3080FE GP-Extreme pads 2mm and 1.5mm, using only 2mm caused the die not to make any contact at all. Core and ram temps barely hit 70c during stress test but hotspot is still hitting 95c even after reseating it all.

3080 FE Thermal Pad change: Mem Temps still 100c!! Help!

Another bump (sorry) just tried this as my ram temps were getting crazy. The core and ram temps are now much better but the hotspot is hitting 105c instantly, what exactly is the hotspot? part of the die? Thanks.

    Some 12900ks / strix z690-f troubles

Thanks for the reply, that helped a lot. Amazing that new motherboards don't come with a manual for the bios and you have to download a pdf one.

    Some 12900ks / strix z690-f troubles

I am building a top end pc for my friend but it's been about 5-6 years since I build a pc and these new bios names and settings are a bit confusing. I followed a youtube video that go me most of the way there, I just did an AI overclock in the end and it's running stable although hot, but from...

    Is less components still better?

I remember back in the olden days it used to be better to have two sticks of ram rather than four, something to do with bus, speed and other such very technical things. My friend has asked me to build him a beast of a machine, but I've been out of the loop a good while (my last build is about 5...

Anyone used Corsair ultra thin or GH-L Helios surfaces?

I've been using Razer Sphex V2 mouse mats and really like them as they're super thin and the edge doesn't dig into my wrist. The problem is they wear out super fast which creates a smooth spot and then the mouse doesn't glide evenly. I am wondering if the Corsair / GH-L are more resistant to...
