I was on AM4 5900X. I've jumped up to AM5 7800x3D. The way I see it, is, that I can drop a Zen5 x3D CPU in when they arrive. 5900X chips are still fetching good money 2nd hand, plus I have an AM4 board to sell, which will help towards the purchase.

Only 4 Sata ports aswell, but I think they will become obsolete eventually, phased out by M.2.

I could always take the plunge, then sell the 7800x3d when the Zen 5 X3d's are released, that way I'd be ready to just drop in the new CPU. (Can you tell I'm trying to convince myself).

I'm in a very similar situation, 5900X paired with a 7900XTX at 1440p. I have the money to make the jump to AM5 7800X3D, its in the basket right now, but a £700 upgrade for the CPU, MB, and DDr5. It's a tough one but something tells me I should hold out for Zen 5.
