GPU - Thermal pads instead of paste? Anyone tried it?

Sorry for the radio silence, been busy with work and my bloody backs gone. Not a good week... As an update in case anyone else comes across this problem. i took some tools home, a (micrometer and some feeler gauges) and found that ALL the installed pads were too big. Hard to say what size...

GPU - Thermal pads instead of paste? Anyone tried it?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sorry, I perhaps should have elaborated better. The pads come Pre-installed on the cooler. Just requiring the user to pull the stickers off, So in theory, cannot be wrong. But with them in place I have a big air gap. The CPU support bracket is the...

GPU - Thermal pads instead of paste? Anyone tried it?

Hi Guys, Long time no chat... I used to be a regular but got tired of the frustrations of Tri-Crossfire and crap AMD driver and game support to the point I literally gave up on it for a few years, but I am back. I have built a new rig thats centered around (what I thought was) a bargain used...

    2 Dimms or 4 for Asus Z68 with i7 3770K CPU

Hi guys, The time has come to upgrade my ram as this 8GB is no longer cutting it and I keep running too low. Something in the back of my mind tells me that 2 large DDR3 modules were better than 4 smaller ones on the Intel IMC when overclocked. (Its a 3770K running 4.5ghz under water) The Mobo...

    7970 Ghz trifire

Thanks mate, pretty proud of the finished setup. Its everything I have ever wanted from a machine and it serves me well many hours a night as I work up here most nights so has to be ultra stable, silent and kick ass... not an easy combination to achieve... :)

Ah ok, my apologies for misunderstanding... that smiley is actually called "Sarcasm" if you hover over it. LOL Anyway - Google "Catleap 120hz" that should bring up some 1440P panels. I almost got 3x 27" versions but when I measured my available space they wouldn't bloody fit due to height...

I could argue that folk would read your advice and assume that since there are lots of 120hz 1080P monitors then the also wouldn't need Tri-Fire since they are a lower resolution... but I wont. We can agree to disagree instead. :)

    7970 Ghz trifire

Your advice to him in post 10 didn't mention refresh rate, only resolution. I was just adding that things may be different if he, or anyone else reading were to use 120hz at similar or larger resolutions as that's a whole new ball game making your advice not quite as accurate as it could be.

Your missing the point... crossfire wont do Crisis 3 maxed at 120FPS in 1080P, let alone 1200 or 1440P.

    7970 Ghz trifire

That's kind of my point, so there is no point having 120hz if your cant draw 120fps... therefore you would benefit from more power if it can scale. Not a bad idea actually mate, I might do that. I too had the whole mechanical keyboard in mind, then saw Aida driving the G19 on a forum...

    7970 Ghz trifire

That's easy to say and I have said it myself to people many times. However... if he had a 120HZ monitor, I wonder if X-fire would cope with Crysis 3? I bet it wouldn't... and that's a sign of things to come as Crytek have set the graphics bar for others to try and beat now.

No mate, that's taken on my phone, its the Logitech G19 LCD display driven by Aida 64. Its awesome, would really feel lost without it nowadays. I only wish there was a nice LCD out there I could use so I could change keyboards as there are better around, but I couldn't lose the damn screen. I...

I find that most stuff doesn't scale well after 2 cards mate. There are a few that do, like Black Ops 2, Hawx and a few others, but in the main, performance is better with 2 than 3. The problem is, its not JUST the drivers that control the scaling, the game needs to be optimised too. Here is...

    Crysis 3 performance

I bet folks running high screen resolutions and over volted GPU's with air cooling and small water loops are running into huge throttling problems and haven't yet noticed. God knows what the code is doing, but the work-rate is epic! I can run Furmark for an hour and get to 48 - 51 C where she...

    Crysis 3 performance

One thing I will note - its worth keeping an eye on your GPU temps for enforced throttling as this game makes my cards hotter than Furmark! Absolutely NOTHING gets my cards as hot as Crysis 3!
