Are you a heel walker or a toe walker?

How people walk/run is rather more interesting than you might think. The one thing that makes Humans different from other apes are not our opposable thumbs, It seems to me that it is our feet. They are actually very un-ape like and have, seeming to me, evolved to fulfil a very specific...

Are you a heel walker or a toe walker?

I generally walk around the house barefoot I find that barefoot, I tend to put my weight on the balls of my feet rather than the heels Even to the point where I often put no weight at all on my heels and basically just toe walk (particularly when going up/down stairs or anywhere else where I...

    A short, terrible lockdown story

The one that always gets me is when you go into a bog and find a massive un-flushed Richard the size of a cucumber fully 2" in diameter just sitting there looking up at you. Quite apart from how it is even physically possible to generate and expel such a Poopedo and live. I find myself...

    Another eye injection

Ouch. Its bad enough when it comes out of your arse the morning after. In the Eyes hardly bears thinking about! (I like my Scotch Bonnet Chilli. Half a dozen at least. But you do know about it the next day! I wear disposable gloves and a full face visor during preparation mind! )

    Another eye injection

The procedure is quite quick. Mine was a little bit more complex since I had an i-stent fitted too to relieve rising IOP (Very successful, Now lower than it has ever been) I am not squeamish so I watched lots of these vids before my procedures. I have always found stuff like this fascinating. :)

    Another eye injection

OWWWWWwwwwwwww! Mind, reminds me some years ago when I went to see my consultant. He told me that he had spent several hours in theatre the previous day trying to save the eye (Not the eyesight. That was gone! Just the Eye!) of somebody who had managed to thwack himself in the face with a...

    Another eye injection

Not had the experience of injection "in" the Eye. But I have had cataract surgery and to say that it is an "Interesting" experience is something of an understatement! One piece of advise if anybody has this to look forward too. (Well two actually) Firstly. The local anaesthetic can be a bit...

BSE 2020: Do you consider Beef safe to eat?

Do you consider Beef safe to eat? Only when it is dead. Trying to eat it while it is still alive would present difficulties...

    Cheap vs expensive oil

On the more general subject of lubrication. I am always amazed that two strokes work so well. I know the principle, but the idea that a little bit of oil in the petrol as it is blown/sucked through the crankcase can actually do the job is really hard to believe. And yet little two strokes...

    China and war

Three Gorges has 40 Billion tons of water behind it! (Yes, I did say Billion) The Dam that is being built by China in Ethiopia will, when filled, have up to 75 Billion! A major Dam failure would make pretty much the worst imaginable Nuclear power plant failure look like somebody knocked over...

Government prosecutes itself (Again). Taxpayers lose, Lawyers win

As an aside, HTF does it take 4 years to create 30 miles of "Smart Motorway" on the M4? (Reinforce hard shoulder, put up some barriers, install lights and signalling??) It only took around 10 to build the whole of the M4, completely from scratch, all the way from London to the Severn. And...

Government prosecutes itself (Again). Taxpayers lose, Lawyers win

Not at all. I am saying that the legal sanction of confiscating the ratepayers money is punishing the wrong people and this sort of issue should be handled a different way. Government agencies (Of any sort. and that includes nationalised/government controlled industries too) are not the same...

What Next for 2020? Volcanoes of Course!

1963 was just a couple of months of unseasonably cold weather. There were concerns even then that the channel might freeze over completely. A Volcanic winter would be far colder and last a lot longer. Well sub-zero and lasting years even.

    Cheap vs expensive oil

To play devils advocate. I have always wondered about this. A Modern engine in good condition will use little or no oil between services. If you are not actually burning any oil, how could what is in the oil damage an exhaust component? By contrast. I would imagine that if one is burning oil...

Government prosecutes itself (Again). Taxpayers lose, Lawyers win

Except Local Government is not a business is it? It is not like a BC has any shareholders or customers to account too. One has no choice as to who ones BC is and no option other than to pay them whatever they demand of you. And how does shuffling money between different government departments...

Government prosecutes itself (Again). Taxpayers lose, Lawyers win

No, a lot of that is quantifiable. Injury/death of an adult is assessed, in part, over such matters as loss of income, loss of future earnings. Costs of support for irrecoverable injuries and so on. Most people anyway, do not take out life insurance so their other half can go out and have a...
