Before I try and return my Benq XL2420TX monitor...

..any more things I could try? OK, it's been out of the box since Boxing day and the first few days were fine. Then one morning I booted the computer and it seemed to take a long time to come on. Every time, I 'pushed' the power button it went white and when I took my finger off, it went...

According to the Asus web-site, the card dimensions are: http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGTX580_DCII2DIS1536MD5/#specifications Dimensions 11.5 " x 5 " Inch Which is it? Is 10.24" the length of the PCB (ie not including the connector 'L'). This is a deal-breaker. 11.5"...

Krypton Rampage Overclocked Bundle : More memory??

I'm keen to have 12GB RAM in my next system - there's no point leaving room to upgrade, it's too bloody expensive by the time you get 'round to it. However, I see these bundles advertised that offer a 'guaranteed' overclock and they all seem to be 6GB systems. What's the impact of putting...

Asus P5B deluxe and front panel HD audio

No, I think will need a complete assembly to fit into an external drive bay.

Asus P5B deluxe and front panel HD audio

Can anyone with this board suggest where I might buy a front panel audio box to make use of the HD Audio faciliity. The manual suggests that I can use a front panel mic/headphone pair that is independent of the rear audio connectors. Have I interpreted this correctly?

    Asus P5B Question

On the box that my P5B Deluxe came in, there is sticker that says 'Green ASUS RoHS Compliant'. So I think the answer to your question is 'yes', but don't sue me.

    Multiple 12V Power Rails

Thanks very much for the answers, guys. I think I might put off the new PSU for a bit. I need a new hard drive anyway :) dmsims: That link makes very interesting reading; a reminder that the manufacturer's spec is often little more than advertising. It pays to dig a little deeper.

    Multiple 12V Power Rails

Just before Xmas I upgraded to a PowerCooler X1950 Pro 512 graphics card; am important factor was that it used less power that competing products. However, I was dismayed to find that the system requirements for this card is for a 450 Watt PSU, with 30A!! on the 12 V rail. I have a Antec 430W...

Monitor and Video Card - Getting the balance right.

Thanks for the advice, fish. The option to play games at less than the optimum resolution is certainly one I would consider. Pardon my ignorance, but if I run the card below the 'natural' resolution of the monitor, I take it that the monitor has to map the lower resultion to the higher. How...

Monitor and Video Card - Getting the balance right.

I reckon I have about £450 to spend on a new Monitor and Video card. It will be mainly for general office use and First-person shoot em ups. Occasionally, I will watch DVDs, but still sitting at the desk. I'm thinking about a 20" widescreen monitor running in 1600x1200 resolution. The trouble...

My NEW HD won't appear in My Computer

You're a one-man thread, Tommy :D . You might want to do a full-format if the drive is brand new. It takes a while on a big drive, so just go and put your feet up with a coffee.

WinXP fails to see second SATA drive

Aaaagggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Ok, I tried the full test with the Western Digital utilities and it made no difference whatsoever. :( :( So, I was rooting around in the device manager, looking at the properties of the 'Primary IDE Channel' (there are two of them, one for the real IDE...

    Network/Disk activity on keyboard LEDs

That'll do nicely :) NathanE: it doesn't mess with the Num Lock *state*, it just modulates the LED.

    Network/Disk activity on keyboard LEDs

In the dim and distant past I came across a utility that would duplicate the network and disk activity on the keyboard NumLock and ScrollLock LEDs. Does anybody know of such utility? Much easier than hanging your head under the desk!

WinXP fails to see second SATA drive

amdnv, could I just clarify something. Have you used the Western Digital disk utilities, or were you just refering to the manufacturer's tools, in general? If it was the former, was it the 'Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for DOS (CD)' or the 'Data Lifeguard Tools 11 for DOS'? The reason I ask...

WinXP fails to see second SATA drive

What I forgot to say is that when I tried the WD tools, I was in windows, which couldn't see the new drive, which is......etc, etc. Tonight's exercise is WD tools from DOS/CD. Fingers crossed.

WinXP fails to see second SATA drive

Thanks guys. The non-deluxe MB just has the two SATA connectors - I think the ICHR5 is correct - since I'm not using RAID, my understanding is that the WinXP drivers will handle this situation without the 'F6' stuff. Using the AsusProbe S/W, it reports SATA1 and SATA2 (if my memory serves me...

WinXP fails to see second SATA drive

SOLVED: WinXP fails to see second SATA drive SHORT: I have fitted a second SATA drive (non-RAID) to an existing P4C800, Win XP system, using the second SATA connector. The BIOS recognises the new drive, but when booting into Windows, there is no sign of the drive - in device manager, in...
