AMD RX 7900 XT/XTX Upgrade discussion

Still running a Radeon VII in my gaming rig but it only really gets used for VR these days, most casual gaming done on PS5. If these had been more sensible, maybe £600 & £700 I might have bitten, but until I upgrade my VR headset I can make do for a bit longer. Ideally want one with a...

You'll find you can undervolt by around 100mv at stock clocks, mine defaulted to 1075mv and was happy at 975mv on air, which dropped the RPM of the fan by about 500.

Undervolting at stock clocks helps quite a bit with the noise with default fan curve. Alternatively watercooling it is probably the best option which as seen over the last few pages is the route several of us have taken. Was gaming last night with mine at 2000 core, 1200 HBM in near silence.

Yeah the junction temps still aren't amazing, might try higher pump setting but I guess there are parts of the core, HBM or interconnect that just get toasty. Overall core temps are great though.

My PC is officially cool and quiet now Ran Superposition benchmark at 2000mhz@1075mv and 1200mhz HBM. Max core 53*C, max junction 94*C. Fans currently set at roughly 900rpm, pump at 70%. Will do more tweaking during the week, just nice to have tamed this card a bit so I can game quietly.

I went for EK cyrofuel, navy blue Seems a little frothy in the reservoir at the moment, assume that will sort itself out? Card shot below :)

Hopefully it should be fine like that because I really can't be bothered to disassemble it all now... Really wish I'd gone for barbs instead of compression fittings, really hard to get them to tighten with this EK ZMT tube, I cannot imagine it's supposed to be that hard, got a blister on my...

Calling it a night now, time for a beer and a movie Got to admit that notch is very annoying, it serves zero purpose! Thankfully my fat rad just fits at the top although the fan ha literally touching my RAM! If I'd gone for a 45mm EKWB radiator instead of the 54mm Hardware Labs rad then it...

In other news the notch at the end of the card makes it longer than with original cooler... So my careful measuring has gone to pot and my thick rad + fan + pump reservoir combo doesn't fit by about 5mm... Thanks EKWB! After dinner I'm going to see if I can swap my thin rad at the top to the...

Glad I posted this now, hope you have fun getting yours set up :) No other issues with the block aside from the tediousness of cutting the thermal pads, and disassembling the card isn't that fun, as mentioned by others the fan connector isn't fun to remove had to tease it off with a really tiny...

Big tip for anyone that has ordered the EKWB like I have. Don't be a muppet and assume the longer screws that come with the actual block are for the backplate. I thought I had done something wrong as I couldn't get them to bite, turns out there was a tiny packet of screws hidden in the end of...

All my loop parts arrived today although I've realized I need a bracket adapter for the EK pump to mount it to the rad so had to order that for Friday delivery! GPU Waterblock from EKWB has arrived in the UK today so should arrive tomorrow :D Should be all ready to go this weekend!

I've got Friday night until Sunday night all to myself so hopefully should give me time to do it in a relaxed fashion :) Going for flexible tubing rather than hard tubing so not a nightmare of a first build hopefully :)

EKWB have shipped my block :) Looks like I need to finalise the rest of my loop and order it tonight ready for this weekend :) Hopefully my girlfriend doesn't come home on Sunday at me weeping in despair as it's all gone wrong :D

Haven't ordered other parts yet, from what I've read the go to choice seems to be a D5 so was looking at the EK-XRES 140 Revo D5 PWM

Ordered from EKWB, put in a cancellation request for Alphacool order. Did some measuring in my case and think I might go for 2x 280mm radiators as a 420mm at the top is likely to cause issues with the mobo as the back fan would hit the mobo's shroud. EKWB estimate is delivered by 5th April...

Hmm, could order direct and then my plans for next weekend will hopefully still be on :) Bit peeved at the Alphacool ones being pushed back by several weeks, evidently they rushed to be first to market and fudged up!

That sucks! Looks like I won't be building my first water cooled machine next weekend then :( The EKWB isn't in stock until at OCUK for a couple weeks either?

Case is a Fractal Design Define S, was looking at a 420mm slim at the top and a 280mm at the front. Choosing between: EK-CoolStream CE 280 + EK-CoolStream SE 420 and Black Ice Nemesis GTX 280 + Black Ice Nemesis GTS 420 Erring towards the Hardware Labs ones as they seem to be slightly better...
