    Potential PSU issue?

A good quality 550W PSU is more than capable of running a 1080. That unit however, is on the budget side and if it's a few years old, may have degraded to the point where it can't handle a sudden power spike from the GPU. Something like this would be ample...

I'm thinking broad beans. A quick google search gave me plenty of similar pictures.

x570 Taichi help, bios update, stuck post code 91

Good to hear you managed to get it flashed back to a working BIOS. I'm not up to date with the latest GPUs - still using a 1080Ti, but I have read about some cards causing blank screen issues. There were a few threads here about this - I'm not sure what the answer was.

x570 Taichi help, bios update, stuck post code 91

I'm not familiar with that particular board, but it has a BIOS flashback function. It'll let you re-flash the BIOS without having to power the system on. Details of how to use it are on page 38 of the manual. Basically you need a FAT32 USB stick with whichever BIOS you want to flash the board...

    Is Inno3d a good brand?

Inno3D have been around for a long time. I heard about Zotac way more recently than Inno3D. Main thing with Zotac is the length of warranty if you register it with them. I've got a Zotac 1080Ti and it's dead quiet - although I run a custom fan curve dependant on temperature. TBH most modern...

    PC not booting…failed hardware?

Try a CMOS reset, something in the BIOS may have somehow have gotten corrupted and made the system boot-loop. Re-setting the BIOS will clear any settings that have gotten screwed up. Some motherboards have a CMOS reset button, others you have to short the jumper with a screwdriver. Of course...

Cheap X570/Z590 Motherboards, are they worth it?

I won't comment on Intel, as I've been out of the loop with their boards for a while (only recently switched from an Intel X99 build to AMD X570). I've got a 5800X on a Gigabyte Aorus X570 Pro and it's been utterly rock solid. Bear in mind that the 5800X can draw just as much power as the 5900X...

New PC tripping circuit breaker when turning OFF

This is starting to point towards a house wiring issue if the PC wasn't even being used. Breakers don't just trip for no reason and a monitor draws significantly less power than a PC. Do you know what other sockets are on that ring main? Socket testers aren't expensive and will tell you if...

    Downstairs toilet extension

Some of the smaller drainage outfits are better than the big chain companies. After having the Thames Water contractors out 3 times, when something went wrong inside my soil stack, I got out a local outfit. They were extremely professional, helpful and sorted the issue for a very reasonable...

    Downstairs toilet extension

Given that the water company search could well tell you nothing you don't already know and waste money I'd probably not bother with that option. Getting a drainage specialist to do a survey would be the most comprehensive option. Yes it'll cost more than the builder lifting the paving, but the...

    Downstairs toilet extension

Older houses can indeed have a combined foul/stormwater drainage system. My parents have a 1950s house and all the gutters run into the foul water drains. Do you know where any of the manholes are? That can give a fairly good indication of where the pipes might be running. I reckon the council...

    Left meat in car

Not worth the risk. Just because the sausages don't pong doesn't mean they haven't already started going off. If the chicken already reeks, it's obviously been plenty hot enough for bacteria etc to breed and decay to start. For the sake of a bad bout of gastro I really wouldn't chance it.

    Nuts and threads

Unless otherwise specified, an M8 nut/bolt should be a standard M8 coarse pitch nut/bolt. Fine pitch alternatives are usually specified and apply to specific applications e.g. spark plugs. M8 nuts/bolts are readily available from most DIY stores & online for very little cost, so if it comes to...

NO sound coming from my computer

Start > Settings > System > Sound. There's a setting right at the top of the page that lets you change the output device. You should be able to set it to either your headphones or the monitor speakers. You can also check on that page to make sure that nothing is muted. Wouldn't be the first...

    CPU power connectors question

Two cables are fine. CPU cables are deliberately split into blocks of 4 for this reason (so you can use them as 2x4 or 1x4 as needed). Unless you're trying to run a high OC, then yes the extra 4-pin isn't necessary although it can sometimes help if you have an unstables system.

Should I see a temperature drop...?

+1 for this stuff. Easy to use, works very, very well and it's not a liquid metal type.

    Stressful Stress Test

Can't remember off the top of my head, but I think the 5800X starts to thermal throttle at 90C. You don't really want it routinely running at 90+ in my opinion. Other thing to bear in mind is you can use the PC for what you want to do i.e. gaming and see what the temps hit under a realistic...

    Stressful Stress Test

The 5800X does run hot, hotter than any of the other Ryzen 5000 series. Running a stress test like Cinebench R23 multi-core, mine regularly gets up into the low 80s. The current hot weather won't be helping either.
