Windows Update Affecting Karen's Replicator ?

I have had this issue as well on all my upgraded Windows 10 machines and also on Windows Server 2016. I bit the bullet and have converted all my usage to Robocopy with batch files and task scheduler. A real shame as I have been successfully using Karens for well over 10 years now.

6: as far as I'm aware, yes. Bit of a pain that one really. The op states he is looking at buying a new N54L. He will get 12 months warranty included and he can officially download the latest BIOS from HP without any issues.

I tried the hack to run Microsoft Security Essentials. Works on WHS2011, but not 2012 R2. So I use Clamwin and Malware Bytes Anti-Malware Pro. I didnt feel comfortable without something better than stock Microsoft.

Not 100% sure, but I dont think so, based on my observations. I think you need to work out how to automate what you want using Task Scheduler or explore running Plex as a Service. I dont use Plex so cant be more specific, but have done this with some other things.

Whats more you can add 4GB non-ECC to the 2GB ECC to give 6GB non-ECC. Mine is an N40L runniing Windows Server 2012 R2. Not sure about Gen8 servers though.

Need to be careful here with terminology. It is Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 that hang during install / startup if the onboard NIC is enabled. Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 are fine.

Just to clarify this statement. Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 works fine with previous BIOS, it is just Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 that need this Bios, and only if you have the onboard NIC enabled. If you disable the onboard NIC and use another NIC, then even this BIOS is...

You can. There are many posts of people with this and more. Space wise you can put the SSD in the ODD space with a slim line ODD, or you can use a full size ODD and put the SSD under it, behind the HP light. As long as you see a hacked BIOS, you can connect the SSD to the Esata and the ODD to...

I can confirm I am running the "German Bios" on a N36L with Windows 8.1 and onboard NIC. I use it as a HTPC and it runs fine.

TP-Link TG 3468 works fine in an N40L. I have it running as part of NIC Teaming with the on board NIC in a Windows Server 2012 R2 setup. You just need to cut the bracket down to low profile size unless you can get a a low profile bracket for it easily. Cost me 12AUD.

Here is the link to the German Forum where a hacked version was posted. http://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/f101/hp-proliant-n36l-n40l-n54l-microserver-752079-430.html#post21503128 If you're any good at German, you can read and decide for yourself whether you are ready to try it out.

Guys, I had to wait for my registration to be validated, but good news for you. HP released a new BIOS dated October 2013 that fixes the onboard NIC issue. I have been successfully running it in a N36L with Windows 8.1 Pro and a N40L with Windows Server 2012 R2 for nearly two weeks now...
