    Honda Integra DC2 tyre options

Can you not get the Advan AD09 in this size? The AD08RS is almost universally hated.

Heat Pumps: anyone have one/thought about it?

They probably would notice it because it seems to be a common trend for people to blast their heating system at a very high power output for short periods under the impression that it is economical to run for short periods ignoring that it's probably about a 30kw system. A lot of people simply...

    Split Air con

Really popular in the states by Mr Cool etc., the line set ships pre-charged with dry break connectors. You simply buy one with a line set longer than what you need and coil up the excess. Every bit as good as any other mini split no reason to suggest they are in any way inferior. I thought...

Hidden bit of fence the neighbours want fixing

Is that fence even within your property boundary. This will be defined on the Title plan which you should have in hand given the recent purchase.

Beater car for lots and lots of motorway driving

Why are people even suggesting petrol for "lots and lots of motorway driving"? Madness, get a diesel volvo v60/70. It'll be cheap, as comfortable as you can get, sip fuel and run for ever.

    Split Air con

Yeah there's clever stuff available but what is the price? I'm curious how that system works, is it pumping the heat from the air handlers into the hot water? Good stuff if so but it isn't clear from the website. Typically multi splits can only heat or cool, can't do both simultaneously. If...

    Split Air con

There are no heating elements. The heating works by reversing the refrigeration cycle. Pumping heat from out to in rather than in to out. I do use our single wall split for heating but only as an auxiliary. It works very well and anecdotally it is very efficient. The caveat to that is that...

    Portable air con

I don't know where folks are getting these wild electricity consumption figures from. I monitor the consumption of mine and it's below £3.25 for whole of June to date, run at 21C 10 hours a day overnight. Admitted that's a mini split, but a portable would need to be outrageously inefficient to...

How come my fridge freeze doesn't need to be regassed but my car AC does?

It's my opinion that the AC system should never need regassing. Only car I've ever needed regassing was when I crashed it and burst the condenser. I don't buy into this theory that not running the system dries it out and makes it leak. My old Z32 now owned by a friend has spent the huge...

    Split Air con

Not really. A 5kw unit will consume less than 2kw full chat in heating mode. First model google returned was 1660w, so ~7A. Very comfortable on a standard 3pin.

Is anyone running a combi boiler with 3 bathrooms (2 or 3 showers) ?

Got a 28kw and anything more than one outlet turned on at once reduces the flow to unusable. Probably going to want to stay with a cylinder if multiple outlets being on is a thing. Switching to an unvented cylinder would do away with the header tank of course.

    Split Air con

Largely I would say no, not very effective at all outside the room the unit is in. You can get something by running your upstairs units silly cold and using fans but even then you'll feel hardly any effect downstairs compared with the room it's in. If you want to cool downstairs then 100% get...

petrol stations price discussion (was ‘chaos’)

Am I missing something here when people keep saying diesel isn't worth it? I've been looking at a lot of cars recently and the petrol ones which people seem to wax lyrical about these days are always significantly less economical than the diesel equivalent. Closer to 50% than the 20% disparity...

Did BMW e60's come with AGM batteries?

Absolutely, you shouldn't need to have specialist equipment to carry out basic maintenance. Although to be fair I think strictly you don't need to register a battery, it just means the smart charging system won't work optimally if you don't.

Did BMW e60's come with AGM batteries?

It didn't have braking regen, that is the preserve of hybrid cars.

    Heating Timer & Thermostat Question

It sounds like you expect the TRV to control the temperature of the rads? TRV are to control the room temperature, not the radiator. If the rad is scalding hot then it's because the room temperature that is set has not been met. When you're running the heating system for such a short period...

Is buying a new BEV worth it ?

It almost definitely would work. Im without an ev ATM but still average 22p/kWh on go just running appliances at night. Charging an ev would bring the average down way further than that. If you can get on intelligent octopus then you get way more cheap hours, min 6 hours, often way more...

Can you change a flat tyre on your car?

If it's safe to do so then change it and get on my way, breakdown take ages so wouldn't waste that time given the choice.
