    Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

What you're describing has been reported on various G-Sync displays. I've had it on two IPS displays and two TN displays, in all cases resolved by using the 165Hz overclock feature. IIRC, in 144Hz mode, I was able to rid the line by changing the refresh rate then changing back to 144Hz. I think...

    LG 34GK950G, 3440x1440, G-Sync, 120Hz

I wonder if the Freesync model will have a working variable overdrive.

    is ultrawide really worth it?

It wasn't about getting use to the aspect ratio. Also, going from 165Hz to 120Hz is something I definitely would not get used to. Do you have a source for the majority of pro Siege players using ultrawide? I'm not doubting there are certain FPS games that ultrawide would benefit, but I do doubt...

    LG 34GK950G, 3440x1440, G-Sync, 120Hz

I'll have to disagree with much of the above. From initial release until today, G-Sync, thanks to the G-Sync module, has provided superior functionality and performance compared to Freesync. At release, Freesync monitors couldn't even enable overdrive and Freesync simultaneously, making the...

    31.5" 2560x1440 165 Hz VA G-Sync - LG 32GK850G

Here in Canada the Dell is on sale for half the price of the LG. I'll only have the monitor for 3-6 months, so it's an easy decision. I'd lose a lot more on the resale of the LG.

    31.5" 2560x1440 165 Hz VA G-Sync - LG 32GK850G

The Alienware is boxed up and ready for pickup. I thought I might be OK with the 120Hz and trading some competitive edge for immersion in singleplayer games, but being primarily a competitive FPS player I really missed the 165Hz fluidity. I was pushed into trying the Alienware because of Dell's...

    31.5" 2560x1440 165 Hz VA G-Sync - LG 32GK850G

I had the LG and currently have the Alienware ultrawide (which is faster than the X34). They're very comparable in most transitions; the LG is actually slightly faster in many transitions. Only in some darker transitions is the LG notably slower, but the dark smearing is very minor when it...

    No, I have the AW3418DW; the 120Hz 1440p version.

    is ultrawide really worth it?

I've had the Alienware for a few days now. For competitive FPS, I agree the added FoV is a distraction. There's just too much eye scanning happening. However, you can run your games in 2560x1440 and your ultrawide becomes a 27" 1440p display (or 28" on 35" ultrawide). That's how I've been...

    LG 34GK950G, 3440x1440, G-Sync, 120Hz

Depends on your gaming priorities. The TN displays are still noticeably faster compared to even the fastest IPS displays. In my opinion, you're giving up a competitive edge @ 120Hz IPS vs 144Hz TN.

    LG 34GK950G, 3440x1440, G-Sync, 120Hz

At least with G-Sync enabled, I definitely notice a difference in perceived blur @ 120Hz vs 144Hz due to the slight judder increase @ 120Hz. It's not a huge difference, but definitely noticeable. Chroma manipulation would be a good idea for increased refresh rate options in ultrawide. For my...

    LG 34GK950G, 3440x1440, G-Sync, 120Hz

Excited for this monitor. Will 144Hz be an "overclock" feature, or will the native 144Hz simply be locked out because of G-Sync restrictions? I wonder if there would be a way to achieve 144Hz-165Hz in 16:9 2560x1440p. Probably too late to implement such a feature, but that would certainly be a...
