    Nvidia planned obsolescence VRAM thread

Same as it ever was. Reminds me of years ago when reviewers of release version 4870 were stating "512mb is just fine" -- and 512mb was solidly outmoded just a few months later forcing AMD/ATI to release the staple 1gb version. Lesson is: don't listen to reviewers or posters, listen to hard data.

    Nvidia planned obsolescence VRAM thread

Can someone with more free time than I key up the 100s of recent "8GB is plenty" posts? Anyone who's been in this hobby for longer than yesterday knew this was coming considering the consistantly growing textures over the past few years. Moreover, looks like cards with 12GB will even struggle...

Oh good grief, I need a new graphics card.

It's not a matter of "affording", in my view. Many people (myself included) have the disposable $, but have a hard limit as to how much they will spend for what is, functionally, a video game toy. It gets to a matter of principle, and to a point where the "value" diminishes compared to other...

The Radeon RX 7900 XT(X) Owners Thread.

Any one experiencing issues since installing 23.3.2? All intensive games e.g. Horizon Zero Dawn, Deus Ex: MD, Cyberpunk are crashing for me after around 30 seconds without fail now. DX driver failure is the report in all cases. I'm running completely stock.

Why are we still looking this up? ASIC value has no impact on performance, ability to OC or undervolt. It's like using the last four letters of your name to determine how well you play football.

Also, any idea on the power limit for that Taichi?

12GB vram enough for 4K? Discuss..

I'd agree that once you get to a certain level, making high-res textures even more "super" has little value. That said, it's difficult to notice Raytacing (or lack thereof) in a still image. I know those areas in CP77 and you can 100% tell the difference when RT is on (and when it's not) when...

Which model is that, the Nitro? I'm running around those settings on my XTX Red Devil and get just above of 30k in Timespy default.

There's been much debate on ASIC quality rating and it's utility going back years. The general concensus is, while a higher number can indicate better silicon, there are many variables that go into having a decent OC and/or undervolting capability: VRMs, cooling, VRAM timings and stability, PCB...

    Should I sell my 3070 for a 4080/4090/7900xtx

Yeah, it certainly depends on the implementation in the game (or more accurately how conducive the game is to DLSS's frame generation). I wish I didn't have the cursory knowledge of what DLSS is doing because, like I said, it's very noticeable and distracting if you know what to look for to the...

    Should I sell my 3070 for a 4080/4090/7900xtx

As you're finding, a 3070 isn't really going to get you 60fps at 4k at high settings in most modern games. In addition to it not being able to render with rasterization at those levels, you'll run into VRAM limits with only 8GB. That said, you can always lower settings or resolution. In these...

I would have 100% held onto mine had it not been for its thermal issues. My new Red Devil is fantastic, but don't think it's £150 more fantastic for 5-6% better performance.

The MBA is a very solid card if you don't have the tjunction/vapor chamber issue. You should be happy you got a good one.

I hit just over 30k (30688, to be precise) in Timespy default on my new 7900xtx Red Devil. Looking strong. My settings were as such: Max speed: 2900mhz Voltage: 1020mv VRAM: 2650mhz (tried pushing to 2750, but artifacts) Power limit: +15% Significantly better temps than on my busted MBA...

Just received my XTX Red Devil L.E. The box and packaging looks like it contains the Necronomicom, LOL. Not sure if it was worth the £150 extra over an MBA, but it does feel like they spent a good amount of time/money designing the L.E. extras, and it feels like a true limited/collectors...

My returned MBA was shipped and processed by ocuk all in about three days -- hopefully you'll hear back soon. I'm disappointed to have paid £150 more for an AIB as the MBA seemed otherwise solid (apart for the vapor chamber/temp issue). Hopefully the Red Devil with prove its worth.

Not to jinx it, but I've got a 7900xtx Red Devil L.E. being delivered tomorrow. Feeling lucky I was able to scope one out, persistence pays. Anyone know the difference between the regular Red Devil and L.E.? Or is it just that the L.E. comes in a fancy box with the changeable backplate?

12GB vram enough for 4K? Discuss..

In 95% of games, 12gb is more than enough. But 12gb definitely struggles in some games with high-res textures. FC6 for example is jolty as heck on a 3080ti at 4k with high-res pack and everything cranked, but is super smooth on a 6900xt or 3090. Witcher 3 Next Gen is another. That considered...

What do you think of the 4070Ti?

12GB is good enough for a mid-range card, and that's what the 4070ti (4060ti) is. And they want £850 for it, lord help us

I've been buying and trading enthusiasts cards since, well.. they existed. In 25 years prior, and likely 100+ cards, I've probably received 2-3 defective cards (Powercolor 5800 LCS that had bad memory, and a 7900 GTO that had a bad heatpipe, another refurb 1080 ti that kept crashing at default...
