If you look at forum posts about any platform it will be mostly issues because that's what people post about, like you say. I don't know whether AM5 is really any different or has more issues than any other platform at this stage tbh? Mine was all plug and play not a single problem.
Bit more testing and think I've answered my own question. I was worried that PBO wasn't working properly on my MOBO as I wasn't seeing any difference on vs off, but by upping the scalar I did manage to increase the power draw so PBO does seem to be working and lifting the power limits. It gave...
Well in case it helps anybody, Asroxk x670E Pro RS and Corsair Vengeance CMK32GX5M2D6000Z36 EXPO kit play together nicely with EXPO enabled. The EXPO kit is not on the QVL list but the XMP version is, I figured the settings are probably the same between them.
This is my first AMD CPU since an...
Looking forward to reviews. I’m only interested in gaming so if somehow 7950X3D schedules it’s cores really well out of the box so that you really can have the best of both worlds 3D or clock speed depending on what the game prefers, then I’ll just pay the extra and get that rather than wait for...
Dilemma for those with an AM5 motherboard waiting for the 7800X3D. How’s the 7900X3D going to perform in comparison with 2 CCD’s, probably gojng to be worse than the 7800X3D in gaming?
At least the performance difference isn’t down to the hardware, it’s just different memory timing settings between boards. Hopefully be fixed as bios updates mature so consumers don’t have to worry about it when choosing a mobo.
I’m in the same boat having everything except the CPU ready. The impatient voice in my head is saying just get a 7700x, it’ll be cheaper than 7800x3D and probably won’t make a big difference seeing as I’m gaming at 4K on my desk and 7680x1440 on my sim rig…
Then upgrade to the AM5’s last...
When I was looking into which mobo to get the Intel nic was a negative for me because enough people seem to have issues with it that I’d rather avoid if I can. Funny because Realtek used to be the one to avoid and now it’s flipped on its head. I’m sure the Intel still works fine for the vast...
Looking at AM5 mobos and I’m willing to spend a little bit more if it means getting something nicer as the plan is to get a 7800x3D now and then whatever the fastest gaming CPU is when AM5 becomes EOL, so want to keep the platform for a while. But some of the cheapest AM5 boards are really well...
Memory should be less important for the x3D chips, so you could go slower but if you take the vengeance expo kits for example 5600 is only £15 cheaper than 6000 so not really saving anything. It does seem that 6000 is a sweet spot unless you really want to save money and get a much slower kit.
If it's not disconnecting all the time/slowing a halt then I wouldn't worry about it. The nic will only have problems for a % of people, it must be fine for most but I might as well avoid it just in case.
That's really annoying!
I’m starting to look into parts for an upcoming AM5 build. I’ve read in a couple posts about motherboards with ‘bad’ nic’s to avoid, but can’t find any info about which boards/nics are bad. This was an issue when I built my z490 system and I ended up with a board with both a ‘good’ Intel 1Gb nic...
To people saying that this is biting Nvidia on the arse, it’s not. They knew the 4080 wouldn’t sell at this price but they have so much 3000 series stock left to sell they had no choice. If they released the 4080 at its proper price then all of their 3000 stock becomes worthless overnight...
What a mess this is turning into. Anything with 12VHPWR is a fire risk and should be recalled, it’s matter of time until there is serious damage to property or worse.
Buying 7900XTX to replace my 3080 if review benchmarks match AMD’s claims.
Edit: no I probably won’t. Didn’t realise how far AMD falls behind when using triple screens which is 99% of my use in the sim.
Native 4K with AA on a 32” monitor still looks jaggy and shimmery to me unfortunately. I say unfortunately because I would love for the monitor I already own to have the highest perceivable resolution. Not quite there yet.
Are Nvidia going for Moore’s Law on prices or something? I thought I was nuts paying £730 for a 3080 on launch day. The rebranded 4070 is offensive.
Haven’t had an AMD card since 4870x2 but waiting to see what they release, golden opportunity to win some market share here. Nvidia have caused a...
