Hay: ... got this link from Gilthanis @ [H] ... he is just a wealth of information ... thought i would share it as it seems to be the best answer i have come across and what i will be trying when i have the time...
what i would suggest is ...
check the specks on your MB (bios settings) ... see if it supports RAM Bank interleave ... as an example ... dual channel ram could have a 64 bit bandwith on the MB, but with bank interleave ... it would have 128 Bit bandwith ... this would be desirable
ie. 4x 2 gig...
if i understand you ... you use the on board graphics chip for your display and the off board gpu to crunch ...
i cant live with that ... 10 seconds for a mouse click to respond ... nope .. dont got the patients for that
and i accomplish this by setting the BIOS to use off board Video ...
Hay:
the goal is to build a system that can run all cores processing, Clean Energy Phase 2 (CEP2) WUs on WCG.
i have a thread going about this at WCG ...
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,38678_lastpage,yes#510561

open Boinc manager in advanced View
go to FILE, pull down menu/
exit Boinc manager & stop all work units
open a terminal window
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo service FAHClient stop
sudo apt-get purge nvidia-*
reboot
open...
i did find a link that shows how to install them ...
havent tried it yet ... but its on my "to do" list
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php/757243-let-s-setup-my-ubuntu-folding-box
if you have it installed correctly
you need to start it
open a terminal window
and type in the command
sudo tpc -psmax 1
seeing you are overclocking
you should also have OCNG tools installed ...
so u can do
sudo clockspeed
not sure this will verify anything as i dont overclock currently...
Sorry Dyslexic can be troublesome
TPC
should be the same on mint as ubuntu ...(should)
and it wont "push" your system past your current over clock ... it will just Lock
the processor P-State, so it never changes to something less than, Turbo boost
Full load
they do help with F@H
does anyone know if these help with GPUGrid?
or anything about them at all
https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
i would suggest replacing that PCIe power cord with one specific to CPU
the [H] alternative folding appliance ... (ubuntu 12.04)
is fine for a dedicated crunching rig ... but I had to replace it with 14.04 as the system wont boot // OS wont install ... with a Newer Video card installed
