    Blackwell gpus

Free money for NV is going to end regardless. They have a stupid amount of competition heading their way in silicon and software sides of AI/ML. One thing I expect them to maintain is the small AI/ML model community, stuff you can run on a single GPU. But their commercial market is about to get...

    Quest 3 owners etc

Ah, that is rubbish! I often play about 5m from my router through a floor and cabinet and it works perfectly. I also use a 7800xt and am acutely sensitive to latency/judder, so I doubt it's your 7900xt. The only thing I can think of is congestion or interference with a nearby network. The VD...

Hmmm 7ms network latency is high from memory. I get 1ms to 2ms. Is your router set to use 80MHz channel width? That had a large impact for my setup.

The "grid covering the blue sky" sounds like 8-bit colour encoding. I believe there is 265 10-bit or AV1 (inherently 10-bit). I'd always go for 10-bit to stop horrible colour gradients.

Check your decode latency as well - that can get very high with AV1/265 at higher bitrates. FYI - AMD 7 series use AV1, AMD 6 series use 265/264, NV use 265 Theres a bug in NV AV1 encode with VD at higher bitrates, so easier to avoid for the moment.

Upgrade from 6700XT. Considering 7800XT and 4070 Super. Opinions sought.

Interesting. I dug through HWUB reviews, as well as bunch of others, when buying my 7800xt but didn't write any of it down - apologies. The hellhound is a great card, but I think the reddit effect of 1 review blew the cooling performance out of proportion. My 2p

Upgrade from 6700XT. Considering 7800XT and 4070 Super. Opinions sought.

Just an FYI that the hellhound is a good card, but has lower clocks & voltages and hence runs cooler than other variants. The Nitro runs at higher power and higher clocks, so you get extra perf at the cost of power. The point: Do get too hung up on the hellhound

The better late than never OcUK RTX4070 Super review thread!

Pretty amazing engineering to get that much performance out of so little silicon and componentry. The PCB isn't even HDI (no microvias/blind/bluried) to my eye. But yeah +1 that the value stinks.

    Guess who's back? Back again..

Using VEGA makes a lot of sense. It is a well understood architecture, with relatively simple drivers and good compute performance. It's on an old node that is perfect for automotive, FuSa, etc. It's analogous to the PowerPC CPU's from 2000's being used on cutting edge spacecraft today.

AMD FSR 3.0 has exposed the ugly truth about most PC gamers

This is a bit of a weird take. The article has made some large generalising statements about PC gamers, moaning that PC gamers won't state the real reason they're not going and buying overpriced hardware to access new features. DLSS3 and 3.5 have been reviewed excellently. FSR3 received poor...

    Meta Quest 3 with a 7900xtx

TL;DR: The 7800/7900 cards good for wireless PCVR. I can anecdotally recommend the 7800xt, with which I play a lot of PCVR with the Quest 3. It runs well without any stuttering or hiccups and the AV1 encoder is currently outperforming the NV encoders. The 4090 is having trouble with AV1...

    Asgard Wrath TWO

Yeah, I'm getting this a lot.... On the whole, the game seems good. The quest line doesn't really flow, and I've hard waypoint markets literally in the middle of nowhere (bug?). Not like subnautica either, where you have to dig out the storyline by exploration. It just doesn't seem to make...

Pat gets salty, says Intel should be the one dominating the AI market, not Nvidia

I like Pat a lot, and his take isn't stupid. He's taking very tough decisions to try and get intel functioning, after a pretty nasty hospital pass. What did he say: Intel had a product that would have been competitive in the GPGPU space, but it was killed with a lot of other promising...

When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

Your post just shows how good the design of the 4070 is. You get the same performance for less silicon, PCB and componentry. I applaud NV for that, because it means it should be cheaper. It's just that it's not cheaper..... So NV engineers are excellent, but their pricing strategy is *******.

    Quest 3 accessories thread

Yeah, have done all that. It's OK, but not great. The battery has started to make a woeful noise as well, can be heard over 50% volume of the Q3. On the whole its OK, but not nearly the experience sold via reddit etc.

Got my bobo M3, and it's alright. I think there's a bit much hype around it at the moment. Definitely a step up in comfort, but not as stable or as adjustable as I thought it might be. Not a bad product at all, just not at all perfect.

    The £500 go to card?

Honestly, if you want to do AI work, I'd pay for cloud based instances. Local training is so just so slow, and there are some lovely tools (weights and biases, etc etc) that integrate all the compute you could want.

    The £500 go to card?

For me, a 7800xt at about 475 is a good buy at the moment. If you value RT or only play slower single player games, NV are your best bet. The 7800xt could become a poor buy in 2 or 3 months when NV release the super variants, but who knows what their pricing will be...

Black Friday/cyber Monday - what would count as worth buying?

If you can get a 3 fan AIB for that price, then yes it's great value IMO. 475 for the pulse is good value in the context of 4070's being ~550 at the moment. The only question is how good the 4070 super is and where it is priced. I expect it'll drop in at the 550 mark where the 4070 sits in and...

In your opinion, what is the best AIB 7800XT card?

I guess what I was trying to say is all the 3 fan variants perform well and are cool and quiet. I personally wouldn't go too far to get one particular one.
